You can't always get by on your rcrutatlon. :o: Demnsey and Wills are going to fight if they can get enough money to make them mad. t o:o Some persons miy find consola tion In the fact that horned toads can go 119 days without a drink. :o: , "Tell your love by radio," says a popular song. It is also a. good way to convey your opinion to the traffic cop. r:o Washington was the father of his country. Tut a Vermont man did the best he could. He has 3S6 direct tle- scendants. :o: Elinor Glynn's "Three Weeks" Is to be filmed, but perhaps the cen sors will reduce It to not much more than a fortnight. :o: A paragrapher remarks that a lawyer is the only man who can at tend to other people's business and get away with It. :or There may be no connection; but the cx-kaiser's book was -written In Holland and geographies say: Hol land a low, lying country. : o: Senator La Follette warns the sen ate republicans that tho tariff bill will be their undoing. And it may be a true prophecy, at that. :o: Dan Butler of Omaha is going to surprise some people in his campaign for governor, and when the votes are counted they will find out that Dan is some runner. :o: ' Don't forget to spot the demo gogues at the primary. There are so many candidates thev have an idea they can slip in and get the nomina tion. Beware of them. :o: This was Intended for a good crop year, but those farmers whose crops were cut down by hail Monday night are not disposed to think so. They are Indeed disappointed. :o: Some of the girls who use so much paint and rouge should take a few lessons in perspective. A true artist makes his picture as attractive at fairly close range as It is from far ther off. If we are now In the throes of a wet moon, we wish He, who rules all things, would hurry up with his dry moon. For we have had plenty of rain for more than "all practical purposes." :o: Suggestion is now made to have a law requiring finger print3 to be taken of all babies. Most babies we have wodld leave finger prints all over everything without any law re quiring it. . :o: Corsets are bad for the health This has been proved in thousands of cases. Just look at Edison; he can work 18 hours a day, with only four hours of sleep, and he ha3 never worn a corset. :o: Fifty women of Lincoln and other communities of the state have pledg ed their support to Norton for gov ernor. This is quite a starter among the democratic women in the state for Mr. Norton. -:o:- "It don't take a man long to bag his pants at the knees,, and to make a finely tailored suit look thoroughly disrepu table that's the man of it," avers Dainty Dorthy. But ehe goes on to explain that the man who is making use of our cleaning, steaming and pressing services is keep ing his clothes in much more presentable condition than when he got acquainted with us. And It doesn't cost much, either. Goods Called for and Delivered -MOiMe 166 OPPOSITE. JOURNAL OFFICE The new bank building is looming up in great shape and the exterior presents a most beautiful appear ance. When It is entirely completed it will be one of the handsomest bank buildings in either Nebraska or Iowa. :o: A writer in the Manchester Guar dian hope3 baseball will never take hold In England, because It is too noisy. However, what little noise baseball would make in England would never be noticed so close to Ireland. :o: The campaign thus far has been an uneventful one. The voters are paying no attention to various contests and enthusiasm and excite ment incident to a political battle In this state has been conspicuous by its absence. :o: An American with $2,000 can go to Germany and be a millionaire at the present exchange value of the mark. But every American with $2, 000 expects to be a millionaire at home In a short time, so why should he go to Germany. :o: The harmony club organizers are evidently not accomplishing very much as Mr. Thomas of Omaha, an intimate friend and supporter of Charley Bryan, says there Is no com bine between Hitchcock and Bryan. Now, will you be good? o:o The progressive republicans of Douglas county have endorsed Jef feris for senator and Adam McMul len for governor. That should prove a very good start for these gentle men, though It does not mean their nomination by a long shot. :o: -Governor Allen of Kansas thinks that when a man puts on a mask to parade, his intentions are open to question. That'a why so many people object to politicians wearing them. And they are numerous nowadays. A deceitful politician you can't de pend upon! either in -or out of office. J So, watch out! :o: Dr. Lawson Brown has proved that it Is dangerous to kiss girls in the morning as the germs are then very active. But luckily the sun and air during the day kill the little devils off, and In the evening it is practic ally safe to do a little kissing, so faras catching anything in the dis ease line is concerned.
