There was a proat deal of ex- ritcment on Main street this mornmsr about o o clock, when a fire was discovered in the rear of the Uookmeyer buihlinp: by John I-'ilpatrick. the ni?ht , watchman. The lire -had rotten quite a start in the small frame shed built on the r ar of the buiidinv; an.l the smoke was arising in dense clouds, both from the front of the bitildin? and the back ami it was hard to determine just how serious the Hre really was at lir-t. The fire hoys responded quickly to the alarm and soon had a line of hose playinvr on the flames and in a short time had them under control. The fire is supposed to have started from a pile of trash ami rubbish in the shed, where it is probable some matches had been dropped, and il may have smouldered all night before breakinp: into flames. The room was just bejntr occupied by W. 1. Cook as a barber shop, and with the assistance of several by standers the furniture was re moved, but there was no need of it, as the fire did not. penetrate info the main buildina. The re port on the street at first was that the fire was ia the store of II. M. . oennichsen, and created much alarm at first, and in a few minutes the street was filled with parties whose places of busi ness was located in that block. The fire fortunately did but lit tle damatre. FINE SHOWING MADE BY THE BANK OF CASS COUNTY From Wednesday's Dally. The report of the condition of Ih- Hank of Cass County, which appears elsewhere in this paper, shows thai institution to be in most excellent condition, and the statement this time is the best I hilt has ever been made by any one bank in the county and is m ry pralifyinp- to the patrons and stockholders of this stroncr financial institution. The Bank of Cass Counfy ranks amonp- the best and most substantial banks in this part of the slate, and under careful manapernent is constantly prowinp- and inereas- inv its deposits, until it ranks amonp the very best in the state The splendid showinp- made by the bank is an indication of the prosperous condition of the com munitv and especially of the farmers who deposit at this in slitution, and under the present conditions that allows the banks to make a showincr like that of Ihe Hank of Cass County there is little need to worry about the condition of affairs in this county ANOTHER PARTY TO VISIT MONTANA LANDS Krom Wednesday's Dally.
