IMPROVEMENTS
Plattsmouth Has More Than Held
Her Own This Season In the
Way of Improvements.
From Wednesday's bully.
Tim past season has been tilled
with a great many building opera
tions in the city of Plattsmouth
and allows a steady and con
servative growth of the city.
There has been no sudden un
healthy boom in the real estate
values, but they have been I he
result of the confidence of the
citizens and business men in the
future of Plaltsmonlh and its
business interests.
The new Modern Woodmen
building was I he first of (he
building operations lo be started,
and it is a beautiful monument
lo the energy of the gentlemen
who started the project and put
it into execution. This is one of
the most modern and up-to-date
buildings in the city and is an
Ideal one for the use of a lodge
or social gathering, being provid
ed with large assembly hall, din
ing room, cloak rooms, toilet
rooms, kitchen and all equipped
with the most modern fixtures.
The new front on the Wescolt
building is another great addition
to the appearance of Main street
and is modern and up-to-date in
every respect and cost these
enterprising gentleman several
thousand dollars and they de
serve great, praise for their ef
forts to make the store one of the
best in this part of the state.
The (iem t healer, which has
been built in (he Coates' block, is
one of the prettiest and neatest
homes of the motion picture art
in this section and its front, will
Compare favorably with those in
the larger cities, ami reflect
credit on Manager Shlaes, who
has been so persistent in his ef
forts to secure such a delightful
place of amusement for the peo
ple of Plattsmouth and vicinity.
Tin; Parmele theater, which is
under the same management as
the (lem, is also undergoing a
complete overhauling, having a
new steel ceiling put in, the in
terior is being painted and the
lighting facilities will be extend
ed, making the theater modern
and llrsl calss in every respect.
The new Leonard building on
Main street, being erected at a
cost of several thousand dollars,
is another proof of the fact that
the city is forging to the front,
and when the building is com
pleted it is going to be one of the
swellest one-story buildings in
the city.
The Paragon laundry building
on Fourth street, which was
erected especially for use of the
laundry, is one of the model
buildings of its kind and will give
Plattsmouth a splendid laundry
that can product) work as good as
can lit turned out anywhere in
the state.
The city will soon be able to
move into their building, which
I hey recently purchased on Fifth
street, and which they have had
remodeled for use as a cily hall
and headquarters for the street
work department of (he cily gov
ernment as well. This makes an
ideal location for this department,
as everything is where it can
be easily gotten at when needed
by the street workers.
In the residence portion of the
cily remodeling and repairing
have been the order of the day,
and no city of its size can boast
of more handsome and comfort
able homes than ' Plat tsmoulh.
Two very line residence are now
in the course of construction the
collage of August Cloidt tin Main
street, which is almost ready to
occupy, and the bungalow of Mrs.
James Allison in the Second
ward, which, when completed, will
be one of (he most beautiful
homes in the city and will cost
several thousand dollars.

Edwards Largely Attended by
Sympathetic Friends.
From Wednesdays Dally.
The funeral of the late Andrew
C. Kdwards was held this morn
ing at the Methodist church and
was attended by a large number
of the sorrowing friends of the

was delivered by Rev. L. W. Gade
of the Presbyterian church, in the
absence of Hev. Austin at the con
ference, and was most eloquent
in its tribute to the departed, and
full of consolation to the sor
rowing relatives and friends.
The music was furnished by
Mrs. E. II. Wescott and Miss Alice
Tuey, who sang several duets of
the favorite hymns of the de
ceased. The Grand Army was
present at the church in a body

A Few Items Taken From the
t
Daily Journal of September
18, 1884.
News items being rather scarce
and hard to get, wo clip the fol
lowing items from the Daily
Journal of Thursday, September
18, 1884, which was then publish
ed by Sherman & Gourtright.
Charles S. Sherman now resides
in Oregon, while John Gourtright
lives in Lincoln and is doing serv

These items will perhaps be read
by many who resided in Platts
mouth at that time with interest:
Plattsmouth, Milford, Heatrice,
Lincoln and Omaha have sent
committees lo Dayton to light for
the soldiers' home in Nebraska.
Iowa has also at least five com
mittees and Kansas about the
same number. This city has the
smallest committee in point of
numbers of the entire lot.
Miss Jessie Calder, formerly of
this city, but now living at
Wymore, will, tin Tuesday next,
become the bride of a Mr. Dyer
of that place. Rev. Hurgess of
this city will perform the cere
mony, and Mrs. Mary Hawks
worth will assist as bridesmaid.
A number from this cily will go
out to attend.
A lover's alarm clock has jusl
been brought out to refresh the
memories of those happy couples
who are too absorbed by each
other to notice Ihe sleepliness of
their relatives. As the clock
strikes in p. m. two little doors
open and a man attired in dress
ing gown and cap, glides out,
holding in his hand a card with
the inscription, "Good-night," a
hint which rarely fails to be un
derstood. J. ft. Hunter, who was done up
yesterday by the bogus agent for
Wells, Fargo & Co., was taken in
again this morning. A fellow
over at the Junction gave him a
fine-looking hunting dog, upon
condition that he would stand the
treats. Jim stood treats and
then went otT and bought a new
tlog collar for bis dog. When he
got over here he walked up street
leading his dog, when a little girl
came up and claimed it, saying it
belonged to Dr. Livingston.
St. Luke's church was filled to
its utmost cvapacity yesterday
afternoon to witness the cere
mony wherein Mr. Charles I).
Cummins and Miss Klia Smith
were to accept each other for
better or worse for Ihe rest of
Iheir lives. Promptly al 't o'clock
standard time the wedding parly
appeared at Ihe door of the
church, and while Miss Anna Liv
ingston rendered Mendelssohn's
wedding march, advanced to the
altar in the following order: First
came Kiltie Cummins, Ihe flower
girl, attired in while with blue
ribbons, then followed the groom
upon the arm of Mr. Henry May
er; following was the bride sup
ported by Capt. J. W. Marshall.

TRUTHFULL REPORTS
Plattsmouth Reads Them With
Uncommon Interest.
A Plattsmouth citizen tells his
experience in the following state

this can be had. The truthful re

the best proof in the world. Head

Jonathan Hall, general store
keeper, 111 Main street, Platts
mouth, Neb., says: "I consider
Dunn's Kidney Pills a very ef
fective remedy for lyickache and
other kidney troubles. They have
proven their value to me. Other
members of my family have also
tried this preparat ion, getting our
supply at Hynotl's Drug Store.
They think just as much of it as
I do."
Mr. Halt is only one of many
Plattsmouth people who have
gratefully endorsed Doan's Kidney
Pills. If your back aches if
your kidneys bother you, don't
simply ask for a kidney remedy
ask distinctly for Doan's Kidney

the remedy backed by home
