The city will soon be able to move into their building, which I hey recently purchased on Fifth street, and which they have had remodeled for use as a cily hall and headquarters for the street work department of (he cily gov ernment as well. MOTHER OLD COMRADE ANSWERS LAST ROLL GALL Funeral of the Late Andrew C. Edwards Largely Attended by Sympathetic Friends. From Wednesdays Dally. The funeral of the late Andrew C. Kdwards was held this morn ing at the Methodist church and was attended by a large number of the sorrowing friends of the departed. The funeral sermon was delivered by Rev. L. W. Gade of the Presbyterian church, in the absence of Hev. Austin at the con ference, and was most eloquent in its tribute to the departed, and full of consolation to the sor rowing relatives and friends. The music was furnished by Mrs. E. II. Wescott and Miss Alice Tuey, who sang several duets of the favorite hymns of the de ceased. The Grand Army was present at the church in a body and conducted the services at the grave. The pall-bearers were seelcted from the members of ihe local G. A. R. post and bore the flag-draped casket of thejr de parted comrade to its final rest ing place in Oak Hill cemetery. The active pall-bearers were: John Fight, Justus Lillie, Edward Hates, Robert Troop, Thomas Glenn and V. II. Freese. U. A. News items being rather scarce and hard to get, wo clip the fol lowing items from the Daily Journal of Thursday, September 18, 1884, which was then publish ed by Sherman & Gourtright. Charles S. Sherman now resides in Oregon, while John Gourtright lives in Lincoln and is doing serv ice tin the Lincoln Daily Star. These items will perhaps be read by many who resided in Platts mouth at that time with interest: Plattsmouth, Milford, Heatrice, Lincoln and Omaha have sent committees lo Dayton to light for the soldiers' home in Nebraska. Iowa has also at least five com mittees and Kansas about the same number. This city has the smallest committee in point of numbers of the entire lot. Miss Jessie Calder, formerly of this city, but now living at Wymore, will, tin Tuesday next, become the bride of a Mr. Dyer of that place. Rev. Hurgess of this city will perform the cere mony, and Mrs. Mary Hawks worth will assist as bridesmaid. A number from this cily will go out to attend. A lover's alarm clock has jusl been brought out to refresh the memories of those happy couples who are too absorbed by each other to notice Ihe sleepliness of their relatives. As the clock strikes in p. m. two little doors open and a man attired in dress ing gown and cap, glides out, holding in his hand a card with the inscription, "Good-night," a hint which rarely fails to be un derstood. Mr. Mayllebl has but recently returned from Cali fornia, where he went for his health, and he has all the appear ances of having found the foun tain of perpetual youth, looking several years younger than when he left here.
