Mrs. Meyers' condition was considered
quite critical, but is now getting along
nicely.

last Friday from a trip to Texas, where
he has land, and visited Weeping Water
friends until Saturday morning. He
has located a man on his southern farm,
who moved from Louisville and has a
family of six children. That is cutting
down Cass county's population some.

NOT MARRIED
AS REPORTED
Though the Friends Had Much
Sport With the Young
Folks Concerned
Col. C. W. Bessey of Omaha, while
quietly pursuing his every day activities
was yesterday apprised by a neatly
written letter coming to his desk,
couched in the most endearing terms,
and in a delicate feminine hand, telling
of a wadding of a young lady friend,
which the letter said was to occur last
evening and bidding him be present.
He hastened with his tasks to get
here and when the Burlington flyer
rolled in to the station here off stepped
the Colonel. A number of the young
lady's friends were, at the station to
receive him, and while the letter was a
josh and there was no wedding, they
showed the Colonel a good time. Mr.
Bessy had found time to take a little
run out into the city before coming and
had a beautiful cut glass dish for the
expected bride-to-be, which he was a
little loath to to give after he found out
the truth of the matter.
We were admonished not to tell the
names of the parties upon whom the
joke was perpetrated, but had the af
fair been consumated, as reported, the
Fanger department store would have
been compelled to hire another clerk or
be one young lady short.

L. B. Egenberger returned this morn
ing from Omaha, where he has been with
his son, Louie, who was operated upon
yesterday at the St. Joseph hospital for
appendicitis by Dr. Davis, and reports
that his son is doing nicely. Mr. Egen
berger spoke to the attending physician
this morning just before departing, and
was assured by him of the good con
dition in which Louie was in and the
anticipation of the doctor of his speedy
and entire recovery from the disease
and operation.

with longing eyes upon the coveted bit
of seafoam, but only one could get it
and the luckv one was J. C. York, the
barber.
Freddie Mittlemeyer Improving.
