One Who Was Thi:i:i:
' Plattsmouth made no etTort to have,
a big celebration on the great natal
day, and no one wasdlsappoin'cd with
what we did have. There was plenty
of firecrackers, both large and small,
thunder sticks and all kinds of shoot
ing devices put. to use from early in
the morning until after the last glim
mer in the business houses had been
extinguished. In fast It was very easy
to perceive that the Glorious Fourth
was here.
About nine' o'clock In the morning
the City liand made its appearance up
on Main street, and furnished soul-ln-gplrlng
strains at different localities
until the noon hour. After dinner
seats were provided for them on the
court house lawn, where they continu
ed to entertain the people at intervals
durlnir the afterncon and for some
time in the evening.
No special effort was made in the
direction of a grand display of" tire
works, yet there was numerous rock
ets and smaller explosives put In use
in front of the business houses and at
private homes for the enjoyment of
the children.
The ball game In the forenoon be
tween the "Rex Sox" and the "Invln-
clbles" attracted quite a crowd, and
which resulted In a victory for the
Omahans by a score of 7 to 3.
A little after the dinner hour quite
a rain came up, and the second game,
which was "booked" for 3 o'clock was
delayed until 4:.'M. A large crowd had
assembled at tlie park w hen another
little shower came up, rendering the
diamond Impossible for use, and about
'in.OO of gate receipts had to be re
funded. This is where the "Red Sox"
lust out financially. Put the "Invin
cibles" have made a date to try them
again next Tuesday.
Many people went out of town to
celebrate, but those who remained at
home seemed to enjoy themselves as
much as If Plattsmouth was having
one of the biggest celcbrat inns In tlie
annals of the old town.

at the ball game at (Ilenwood.
The boys and girls seemed to have
just as good time as if we had ten
thousand people in town.
It was a great disappointment to
the "Red Sox" that the rain prevented
the second game. The boys say they
expected to "do"' thc'Invinclblcs" In
the last game.
Everybody Is glad It's over but the

The Impromptu dance at (,'oa'es'

enjoyable time.
Plattsmouth v. Glenwood.
Plaltsinouth's prestige was upheld
In the ball game at (ilenwood yester
day. The High school team winning
by a score of 11 to. It was a good
game throughout and was marked by
some good work notwithstanding the
usual errors of amateurs. The teams
were well matched In most depart
ments. The battery work of Minor
and Mann was superior In every way
to that of Story and Morgan.
Echo of Plcnlo Parties.
A Jolly crowd of young people went
to 1'at'er.on's pond to celebrate the
4th, and participate In a good time at
various sports. Of cour .a the picnic
dinner was the principal factor of the
celebration, and received a share of
Mic young folks' attention. Tlie rain
for a time threatened to put the pic
nickers to (light, but after a slight
hower, they Issued from the carryall,
where they had taken refuge, and en
joyed a delightful time until a late
hour in the afternoon. The party was
composed of Misses Frances Wcldman,
Gladys Sullivan, May McCallan, Gret
chen honnclly; Messrs. Ernest Wurl,
Fred Wcldman, Ed. Scotten and Har
old Strclght.
Another enjoyable celebration oc
curred yesterday afternoon at, the
home of C. A. Rawls, when the neigh
bors assembled to indulge in a picnic
dinner. On account of the rain the
picnic was held Ind-io.s and when the
word was pessed that supper was
ready, twenty-seven merry celcbrat ors
took seats at table, which had been
artistically decorated, and tlie viands
placed within reach of all, by the
ladies. The party lingered for some
time at the festive board and an it
the palate had been taxed to Its ut
most, the men adjourned to the porch,
while tlie ladles soon removed the
remnants of the bounteous feast, and
joined In the celebration promoted by
the gentlemen. After sending up a
toy balloon, one of the men was found
to be missing, and for a while the
party thought he had been carried up
during thccelcbnuion. This absentee
soon re-appeared, however, when an
other balloon was being prepared for
tlie ascent. At a late hour the merry
makers dispersed, with pleasant mem
ories of the day.
A family picnic was held at tlie
home of A. X. Sullivan yesterday and
ev.-ryone nan a joiiy it me unserving
t he glorious old 4tli. The bounteous
feast prepared for the occasion w;is
most enjoyable one, and everyone
joined In and celebrated in proper
style. Tlie out of town guests present
to participate in tlie festivities were
Mr. and Mrs. Asa Snyder of Nebraska
City, Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Sullivan, St.
Joseph, Mo., and Mr. Ilalph Towle of
South ( imaha.
At the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
P.amge a picnic party was held and a
good time enjoyed celebrating the 4th.
The rain, which came about dinner
time, caused the party to take refuge
in tlie house, hut did not, prevent any
one from having a delightful lime.
The hospitable residence of the
county judge, II. 1). Travis, was the
scene of another gathering to partake
of a picnic dinner, and although the
judge was absent on u trip to Indian
Teirltory, Mrs. Travis proved equal to
the occasion and assisted the gather
ing to have an enjoyablo time. Among
those present to celebrate the day
were Mrs. Geo. Gilman and daughter,
Gwendoline, of Xebraska City, Mrs.
Arthur Jackson, L.W.Jones, W. L.
Coyne and sister, Miss Nellie, of
Omaha.
A picnic party com pi sed of the fam
