The council was called to order
by President Murphy and the fol
lowing responded to roll call: W.
I). Jones, Murphy, Stcimker, Lake,
Minor and Graves. The mayor and
Cntlncilllicn Spies, Petersen and
I). M. Jones came in later.

A resolution by Spies was read,
calling for the paving of Sixth
street hetween Vine and Pearl. On
motion the resolution was adopted.
A committee was instructed to as
certain whether the property own
ers wished the street paved wilh
lrick or macadamized, and the city
attorney was instructed to draw up
an ordinance to that eliVcf.
Mrs. Ihirtoti asked the council to
take some action to keep the water
from overflowing her properly on
Holdrege street. The petition was
referred to Ihe comiuilli on j
streets, alleys ond bridges.
Mrs. M. Carroll also stated in a
petition P the cot ncil that they
would have to take some action to
keep water from overflowing her
property, as it was impossible for
her to raise any tardea, riti-1 that
the clay had covered her ground
so that it was unfit for cultivation.

the city, and, if not done within ten
days after receiving notice, the city
would build it and charge the cost
up as taxes against the city. 1 he

Mr. Murphy then stated that .Mr.
Windham was present and that he
hail a statement to make. Mr,
Windham then addressed the coun
cil on the subject of advert isin the
city. lie stated that as a member
of the joint committee appointed by
the board of trade and the council

rests of the city, that the cotumittei

committee-thought it best to have a
lare number of pamphlets printed
with cuts of the principal business
houses and residences, and a de
scription of Ihe many advantages
the city offered to manufacturing
establishments, and he asked the
council to make an appropriation
to pay for sait! advertising.
On motion of Mr. Petersen the
council appropriated ."m). or as
much as would be necessary to
judiciously advertise the city

passed without a dissenting voice.
The police judge's report for tin
