dred and three couples in 1 attendance.
GlenWood was rej resented by six
couph', and others weie piesent from
Omaha, Lincoln. Nebraska City, and
Burlington Iowa. The club and it

a complete success and the verdict of
those in attendance is very comple

If the managers of the new opera
house would hire special policemen
and put them in the gallery to make
parties there sit down, take their hats
oil and give a semblance of quietness,
the audience below would be glad to
foot the bid. Friday night last, the
gallery audience, or large numbers of
them, stood up on the scats, walked
around during the most attentive
parts f the play, talked out loud, sat
on the backs of the seats with their
hats 011, and hi ether ways exhibited
their ''iirly education, while the hood
lums tmt iu their time "tiring'' pro
grammes at th! audience. The nui
sance bhould be abated.
Uni.'n services was held in the M.
E. Church on Thanksgiving day, there
being a very good audience in attend
ance. Rev. S. P. Wilson offered pray
er and Rev. J. T. Baird. pastor of the
Presbyterian church, preaching the
seimon. Those only who were present
know the excellence of the discourse,
which was listened to with the closest
attention. It was broad in extent, rich
in thought, scholarly and finished. The
world was brought together; the bles
sings of nations garnered, and the self
evident tiuth of our highest privileges
coming from our nation as a Christian
nation exemplified. It was a sermon
so replete with good, that it should not
be confined to church walls and the
comparatively few who heard it.
The Miln-Burleigh company enter
tained the finest audience of the sea
sou in the ew opera house last Fri
day, t lie -troupe appearing iu Othello,
Mr. Buileigh as Othello, and Mr,
Miln as Iago. To the lovers of the
tiagedy iu the drama, 'he entertain
ment was most highly appreciated.
The cast was the best. tba ever ut
peared before a Plat tsiuout ii audience
and their rendition of Othello was
rccplmiinlly good. Mr. Miln as Iago
persouilied I hat most treacherous
character magnificently, and Mr Bur

Surveyor General Smith and Mr.

One evening last week the youag
folks in the viciuily of Elmwood
united their forces and made an on
slaught upon the unsuspicious home of
Rev. Edward Root. A general old-
fashioued corn busking frolic ensued,
after which a supper of oysters, which
had been brought by the raiders, was
served and a general good time was
had until a late hour.
Some two weeks ago Mr. Frank Fow
ler, who resides two miles west of
town met with a painful accident
which has cost him the sight of an eye.
He lumped from the top of a load of
hay, landing among some high weeds,
one of which was forced into his eye,
under the ball. The eye proving quite
painful the unfortunate man called
upon Drs. Thomas & Hall, who upon
examination decided that the sight
was destroyed. However, desiring a
more thorough examination, he accom
panied Dr. Hall to Plattsmouth, and
was there re-examined with the eph
thaltnascope. by Drs. Livingston and
Hall, when his worst fears were con
firmed.
