Ewing News lly Mm. Harold llurto Mr. and Mrs. Loren Walton and three sons are now located in Ewing, having moved recently from Clay Center, Nebraska. Mr. Walton is the District Scout Ex ecutive of the Sandhill District. Since arriving in Ewing, Mr. Wal ton has transacted business per taining to scouting at Butte, Spen cer, Lynch, O’Neill, Long Pine, and Amswoith. Monday evening he attended the County meeting of the American Legion and Aux iliary at Stuart where he was a guest. The three sons, Jim, Eugene and Terry have enrolled in the Ewing public grade school. The family attends St. Peter’s church. Mrs. Raymond Mullens substi tuted in the third grade as teach er in the Clearwater Public School on Wednesday due to the illness of the teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Rother ham and family who were week end guests at the Roy Rother ham home, lelt Monday to return to their home in Niobrara. Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Rotherham had as their dinner guests Sun day, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rother ham, Ewing, Mr. and Mrs. Vin cent Rotherham and family ol Niobrara, and Mr. and Mrs. Leo yj ivianey ox cnumoers. Mrs. Wilbur Spangler tdtik her daughter, Joan, to Yankton, for medical attention for some ear trouble on Monday. Rev. and Mrs. Lester Spragg were pleasantly surprised Thurs day when Mr. and Mrs. Price Al derman and Mr. and Mrs. Max Utter, Newport, old friends and neighbors of the Spraggs arriv ed to jom in celebrating the birth day anniversary of Rev. Spragg. A dinner was enjoyed followed by a social evening. The County meeting of the American Legion and Auxiliary was held Monday evening at Stu art. Attending from the Sanders Post 214, American Legioir and Auxiliary were Leo Hawk, Rubt. Kreitziger, Mrs. R. H. Shain, Mrs. Frank Hawk and Mrs. Kreitziger Mrs. Shain, president of the Unit, 214, gave a talk on ‘'Amer icanism”. The Ewing Chamber of Com merce met Friday evening. Dr. Merton Dierks was reelected president. Others elected are: Grover Shaw, secretary; Cletus Thramer, treasurer; Lottie Con ley and Wayne Shrader, other board members. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Brittell, O’Neill, were Sunday guests al the home oi their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Her bert Kirschmier and family. Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Burtwistle and James were guests at the J. L. Priulen home Saturday eve ning. Mrs. L. A. Hobbs visited her mother, Mrs. Rose Harding in O’Neill, Thursday. Guests Sunday at the Dorrence Hobbs home were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Hobbs. Temperatures Monday, January 21 m Ewing were about 40 de grees at noon. This warming trend which continued until about midnight, helped to settle the snow and created a crust on the surface. A light fresh snow fell in the early morning hours Tues day when temperatures dropped to about 4 degrees below zero. A strung northwest wind made poor visibility for driving on high ways. Miss Donna Wright of Lincoln is spending a two week vacation with home folks. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rodgers, O'Neill, were dinner and evening guests Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Welke. The board of Ewing Township held their annual meeting Janu ary 15 at the Ewing Public Li brary. All members were pre sent. Routine business was trans acted. Board members are Bud Barlow, Don Vandersnick, R. S. Brion, Pete Nickolite. Clifford Hahlbeck is constable. Connie, tne small iiaugnter ol Lewis Vandersnick, is a patient at the Antelope Memorial hospital. She developed pneumonia after having a bad cold. David Joe, the month old son of Mr. and Mrs. David Wright is reported to be improving at the Antelope Mem orial hospital where he has been a pneumonia patient for the past week. Todd. Scott and Darel Grim were weekend guests of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. El mer Grim. On Sunday their par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Telford Grim. Verdigre. came to spend the day at the Grim home and to take their children home with them. Mrs. Lizzie Grim was also a guest for the day. Guests for dinner Saturday eve ning at the home of Mrs. Josie Versaw were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Auman of Orchard. The occasion was in honor of the birthday an riiversaries of Mrs. Versaw and Mr. Auman. Mrs. Cletus Thramer and Mrs. Dwight Schroedcr were guests for a coffee hour at the James Mlnarik home Monday morning Mrs. Edna Lofquest attended a miscellaneous shower in honor ol her granddaughter, Miss Beverly Meyer held Saturday evening at the Grace Lutheran church in Ne ligh. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Dierks spent Sunday at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Merton Dierks. Duane Hord, who spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Hord, returned to Syracuse, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Roland Hord and son, Duane of Syracuse, were dinner guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Napier. Relatives have received word of the death of the two month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Graver in Illinois. She was the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Graver, former residents ol the Ewing community, now living in Illinois and granddaughter ol Mr. and Mrs. Dewitt Gunter, now of Norfolk. Sunday evening guests at ine Mark Thramer home were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Funk of Clear water. Mrs. Mark Thramer and son, Mike, visited Saturday evening at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Walnofer at Neligh. Mr. and Mrs. A. Seeman of Nor folk were guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Po fahl and family. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Pofahl and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Rotherham expect to attend the Golden Glove bouts to be held in Nor folk Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Juracek and family went to Norfolk Satur day evening to be guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Juracek. Ben Larsen accompanied by Will Conner, made a business trip to O’Neill Monday. Miss Betty Wright returned to Omaha Sunday evening aftei spending the weekend with her mother, Mrs. Mildred Wright. Chester Larson of Norfolk spent Thursday with his mother, Mrs. j Minnie Larsen in Ewing. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Cary en tertained the following guests at dinner Sunday, Miss Lorene Armstrong of Butte, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Lee and family of Page, Mrs. Minnie Larson o/ Ewing and Miss Alice Page of Atkinson. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley S'ojka and family were afternoon callers Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Koenig. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Dewayne Hobbs on January 28 at the St. Anthony hospital in O'Neill. He weighed seven pounds and eleven ounces. Her mother Mrs. Ed Weyrich, is staying at the Hobbs home to care for the family. Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Hobbs of Ewing ;ye the paternal grand parents. Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Davis vis ited their daughter, Marie, a pa tient at the Tilden hospital for treatment of a virus infection, Sunday evening. She is expected home in a few days. William Hobbs, Becky and Jimmy, drove to Lin coln Saturday to be guests of Air. and Airs. Ron Brion. Becky re mained for a longer visit at the Brions. Leonard Knapp and Mrs. Leo Hintz attended a pino chle party Thursday evening at the home of Air. and Mrs. Frank Bohn. Air. and Airs. Gail Boies spent Sunday visiting at the home of Air. and Mrs. Ray Boies at Plain view. ALr. and Airs. Waldo Davis went to Orchard Sunday to spend the day with his mother, Mrs. Ger trude Davis who was celebrating her 84th birthday anniversary. Airs. Several friends and relatives called dur ing the afternoon hours. Marcus Snyder, who was a pa tient at the Antelope Alemorial hospital for a few days, was able to return home Friday. Mrs. Wilbur Bennett presided at the business meeting in the absence of Mrs. Elmer Bergs trom New officers for the year are Mrs. Lucille Biddlecome, re tiring worthy matron of the Jeph thah Chapter, No. 85, Order of the Eastern Star, is the president and Mrs. J. L. Pruden, secretary and treasurer. Mrs. Dewitt Hoke, worthy matron of the Chapter for 1%3 was celebrating a birthday anniversary. The group sang "Happy Birthday” to her, when refreshments were served Mrs. Henry Fleming will entertain the club in February. Weekend guests at the home ol Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Cloyd were Mr. and Mrs. George Garhart and sons of York. Miss Catherine Bauer of Fre mont and Miss Mary Ann Bauer of Lincoln were weekend guests at the home of their mother, Mrs Rose Bauer. Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Alexan der and family drove to Fremont Sunday to spend the day with her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Blum and family. Mrs. Bob Eggorling of Norfolk was a Sunday guest at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. Anna Savidge while Mr. Eggerling spent the day hunting. Ed Ferguson, who returned last week for treatments of the flu at the Antelope Memorial hospital at Neligh, was able to come home Thursday, feeling much better. Last Week’s News Mrs. C. C. Mr. and Mrs Oscar Wilson, Elgin and Mr and Mrs. Merwin Olson and family of Clearwater were guests Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs. Andrew Olson. Sunday afternoon and evening guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Cloyd were Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Brokaw and family of Norfolk. Due to the illness of Rev Les ter Spragg, the laymen of the First Methodist church conducted the service for the Sunday morn ing worship hour, Curtis Roberts at Ewing and Aubrey Wood at Clearwater. Ed Ferguson who has not been so well the last week, was taken 9unday to the Antelope Memorial hospital at Neligh for care. Viola Parks celebrated her 11th birthday this month by haying as her guests, thirteen girls from four to fix p.m. Monday after noon. Musical games were play ed and pictures were taken. Vi ola received many lovely gifts Ice cream and cake were serv ed by her mother, Mrs. Harold Parks. Aubrey Wood is transacting business this week in the Scotts bluff area. Mrs. Fern Pollock was a call er Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Marcella Bollwitt. The Try and Do Home Exten sion club met Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Jerry Ro therham. Ten members were pre sent for the Pot luck supper at seven o’clock. New members are Mrs. Kenneth Rethmeier, Mrs. Melvin Chambers, Mrs. Grover Shaw and Mrs Merton Dterks Officers f<* 1963 began their term for the year, Mrs Dean Pofal:!, president, Mrs. Jerry Ro therham. vice-president; Mrs. Wayne Pollock, secretary; Mrs. Meriyn Meyer, treasurer; Mrs. B. S. Bnou, news reporter; Mrs George Keller card secretary. Mrs. Stanley Davis is the retir ing president. The business meeting was con ducted by Mis. Pofahl. The group voted to change their name from "The Try and Do Home Exten sion Club" to "The Ewing Wo men’s Club”. Their goals will be something for improvement of the town of Ewing. One of the long range improvements will be a nativity scene as a part of the Christmas decorations. The blea chers put out by the extension club in 1961 will be checked for repairs and a paint job if need ed. Trash containers put out in 1962 will also be checked.
