Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Gunter, Odebolt, la., were guests at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dewitt Gunter, Saturday. Mrs. Joe Hemmer and son and brother, Carl Walter, Clearwater, were Friday evening guests of their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Will Walter. Mr. ana Mrs. Kooert Dunaway, Brenda and Becky were weekend guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Billings. Mrs. Leo Spittier and sons of Norfolk visited Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Laura Spittier. Rick and Jay Spittier are guests at the home of •their sons had spent a few days. They also will visit relatives while here. Demonstration Day for 4-H clubs of Holt County was held Thursday at the annex in O’Neill. The Golden Valley 4-H club was well represented with perfect at tendance. Members are Anita Parks, Shirley Funk, Cathy Kirschmier, Charlene Miller, Glenda Napier, Vicki Miller, Ger aldine Snyder. Rozanne Spragg was a guest. Charlene Miller and Glenda Napier gave a demon stration on mouth to mouth res piration. The group was accom panied by their leader, Mrs. John Miller and Mrs. Alfred Napier. From the Happy Hollow 4-H club, Douglas Taylor who is takv ing Forestry as his project was present he wa accompanied by his mother, Mrs. Chester Taylor, who is a leader in the club. Jerry Taylor, who is employed at Fremont, Nebr., is spending the week at the home of his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Tay lor. Mrs. Vera Anson had as her guests Sunday her son and daugh ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle An son, Battle Creek, and Mrs. Or en Gulbranson and two small children. Mrs. Gulbranson is the twin sister of Mrs. Lyle Anson. Mr. and Mrs. Gulbranson and their eight children, ages one year to fifteen, recently left St. Cloud, Minn., traveling in fojr covered wagons to Salt Lake City, Utah., to make their home. They make about twenty-five miles each day. This family has been In the news and on television since starting on their Journey. They are members of the Mormon faith and are moving west to be with others of the same faith. The family stopped at Plainview for the weekend. They were welcomed by a dele gation of city officials and others and provided them a place to stay. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Shrader and family spent Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Shrader. Expected guests weanesaay at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eben Grafft were Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Hadfield and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Knapp all of Fullerton. Callers Sunday at the Wilbur Spangler home were Mr. and Mrs. Merle Maben and family, Fullerton, who were on their way for a vacation through the Black Hills, Yellowstone Park and to Seattle, Wash., to attend the World’s Fair. Mrs. Ruth Spangler had as her guests Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Coon, Wisner, Mr. and Mrs. Stan ley Skipstead, Fremont, and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Spangler and family, Ewing. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Napier received word from the Lynk Bros, and Baird Inc., producers of hybrid seed corn, that one of his customers, John W. Miller, Ewing, was one of the winners in the corn guessing contest. There were two other winners in Nebraska, one from South Dakota and one from Bronson, la. Mr. and Mrs. Napier and Mr. and Mrs. Miller with other winners are invited to be guests of Iowa Sales meeting, Aug. 2, to be held at the Holiday Inn in Sioux City, la. There will be a contest that evening for the five men and one will be the winner of the new 1962 Chevrolet one half ton pickup truck. Mrs. Wilbur Spangler and child ren accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Eben Grafft, went to Nor folk, Monday, where Joan Spang ler had a check-up on her re cent surgery. Mrs. John Turay and daugh ters and Mrs. Dwaine Hobbs and children were guests Sunday at the L. A. Hobbs home while Mr. Hobbs and husbands went fishing at Lake Andes. Mr. and Mrs. John Turay and Connie went to Omaha Tuesday. Mrs. Turay and Connie had a physical checkup. Connie now has had her braces removed and get ting aoout witn crutcnes. Mr. and Mrs. John Honeywell and Mrs. Anna Alberts, Cham bers, and Mr. anil Mrs. Victor Bollwitt and family visited Sun day at the Ed Urban home. Mrs. John Latzel was able to come home during the weekend from St. Anthony's hospital in O’Neill. Callers at the Latzel home Sunday were Mrs. Ralph Eacker and Mr. and Mrs. Au gust Thiele and family. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Funk attend ed the smorgasbord at Emmet Sunday evening sponsored by the Catholic Women. The Rev. P. F. Burke is spend ing a few days this week in Om- 1 aha. The home of Mrs. Minnie Lar son was the scene Sunday of a family gathering. All members of her family with their families were present, also two sisters and one brother and sister-in-law, making a total of seventy. A no host dinner was served on tables set up on the lawn and the af ternoon hours were spent visiting, taking pictures and group sing ing, with special selections sung by Cressel Anderson, Mrs. Dale Harrod and Mrs. Keith Harrod. Mrs. Minnie Larson spent Sun day and Monday of last week vis iting at the home of Mrs. Celia Christiansen at Chambers. The ladies also called on Mrs. J. H. Gibson in Chambers. Tuesday, Mrs. Larson went to the home of her son, Harlan Lar son and family where she was a guest until Thursday when she returned to her home in Ewing. Friday evening guests in the L. M. Carter home were Julia Streeter and Mrs. Abdula Kasim, Royal. Wilbur Mueller, Arthur, 111., spent Thursday and Friday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Welke. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rod gers, O’Neill, were Friday eve ning callers. Mr. and Mrs. Milan Welke and daughters drove to Chambers 9unday to visit in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Scott. Guests the past week at the C. C. Hahlbeck home were her niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ottis Barnard and daughters from California. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hahlbeck and their guests, Mr. and Mrs. Ottis Barnard and daughter, Ca lifornia, were dinner guests Sat urday evening of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Erb at the cafe in Orchard. Mr. and Mrs. Ottis Barnard and daughters, California, accompan ied by Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hahl beck visited Mrs. Albert Kallhoff at O’Neill Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Boies and their daughter, Mrs. Leona Jo hansen and daughters, Plainview, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hahlbeck Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hawk had as their dinner and evening guests Monday, Mr and Mrs. Ottis Bar nard and daughters. The Barnard family left Tuesday morning to return to their home in Califor nia. They plan to stop at the homes of relatives in Wyoming on their way. Vina Wood entertained the fol lowing guests at dinner Thursday evening at her home, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Burnett, Rapid City, S. D., Mrs. Harriet Welke and daughter, Vaulda and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Shain and family, Ewing. Vaulda Welke returned Wednes day from a vacation trip spent in Kentucky and Alabama. Miss Welke who has spent many of her summer vacations on tour has visited 42 states including Ha waii and toured Canada and Mex ico. She will return to her teach ing position at Newman Grove this fall where she has taught for several years. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Burnett returned to their home at Rapid City, S. D., Friday after a com bined business and pleasure trip to the Ewing community. While here, they were guests at the home of Mrs. Harriet Welke. Waldo and Mrs. Ed na Davis attended the funeral of Miss Evelyn Cavanaugh in O’ Neill Thursday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Fullerton, Craig, Bruce, Tammy and Tres sa, Norfolk, were calling on friends in the Amelia communi ty Friday. They had been in At kinson to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Small. Her bro thers, Gary, Cincinati, O., and Kenneth Small and family, Min den, were also visiting there. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Adams and son, Don left Sunday morning for a weeks vacation. They planned to visit in Utah with Floyd’s ne phews. Mrs. Blake Ott is carrying mail on the Amelia-Ballagh route while the regular carrier, Mrs. Floyd Adams, is on vacation. Floyd Adam’s mail route is be ing served by John Zinkon while he is vacationing. Mr. and Mrs. Blake Ott ob served their 36th wedding anni versary Saturday, July 28. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Vrooman, Gookie, Thane and Frank left early Friday morning for their home at Kent, Wash., after a vis it here with his sister and bro ther-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lew Backhaus, and other relatives near Orchard. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Rees help ed dress chickens at Clyde Bur ge’s Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Krutz and family, Pilger, Mrs. Kieth Shell hase, Margie and Shirley, Atkin son, visited their brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Hie nie Frahm and family. The Krutz family came Saturday evening returning home Sunday evening. Luann, Susie, Julie and Becky Blackmore returned to their home at North Platte Saturday after a visit here with then grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Asa Watson and aunts Joyce and Sharon Watson. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Burgett and Wayne visited their daugh ter, Mrs. Jerry Cuddy, and new little grandson, Kenneth Joseph, Sunday. Little Kenneth was born Tuesday, July 24, at St. Anthony’s hospital in O’Neill. Tom Murray and daughter, De maris, O’Neill, visited at Floyd Adams Wednesday. Blake Ott, Edgar Peterson and Wilford Hatch were fishing near Bonesteel, S. D. Tuesday. Mrs. Edith Andersen arrived home Monday from San Jose, Calif., where she had been vis iting her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Newkirk and Scott, the past three weeks. She came to Central City Friday and visited until Monday with her son, Roy Andersen and family. Duane Sammons came Wednes day to visit his grandmother, Mrs. Bertha Sammons. He is in the Air Force and has been sta tioned at Denver, Colo. He will receive a new assignment on his return to the Denver base. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Johnston. Mark ami Kay, Schuyler, came Saturday evening to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Peterson. Mark and Kay will stay with their grandparents while their parents are on vacation. Mrs. Lindsey and Florence wire Sunday dinner and luncheon guests with Mr. and Mrs. Char les McMillan, Atkinson. Mrs. Maude Forbes accompanied them and spent the day with Mrs. Lou is Fornes. Mrs. Mary Price, O' Neill was also visiting there. Raymond Bly was able to re turn home last week from St. Joseph’s hospital, Sioux City, la., where he had major surgery. Mrs . Leonard Morns and daughter, Woodville, Wash., are visiting the Madsen families. She plans to spend a month with Mr and Mrs. Clins Madsen and help care for Mr. Madsen who is quite ill. Mrs. Morris, the former Jen nie Jackson, made her home with the Madsens when she was a girl. Her sister and brother-in law, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Theisen, Snyder, came to spend the week end with her at the Madsen home. This was the first time in twenty years the sisters had been together. Robert Burge arrived home Sunday night from Oklahoma City, Qkla., where he has been living with his sister and bro ther-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Dickerson, and attending summer school. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Thompson s little twin granddaughters have been named Jeanine Rae and Janet Faye. They, with their mo ther, Mrs. Art DeWolf and sis ter, Sue, spent a few days this week at the Thompson home. Mr. and Mrs. August Pospichal enjoyed a visit from their grand children, Gregg, Gary, Joan and Barbara Pospichal, Atkinson, while their mother, Mrs. Bonnie Pospichal, spent a few days in Omaha. Mrs. M. E. Madsen and Mrs. Louis Burgett attended the iun eral for Miss Evelyn Cavanaugh in O’Neill Thursday. Later they called on Mrs. Burgett’s daughter, Mrs. Jerry Cuddy and new baby son, Kenneth Joseph, at the O Neill hospital. Mrs. Art Doolittle, Mrs. Bob Adair and children were shop ping in O’Neill Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Svatos and David called at Tenus Mad sens Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Anton Svatos vis ited at Dary Carrs Sunday after noon. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Adair, Al len and Dick were Sunday dinner guests at the home of her bro ther, Louis Peter and family, O’ Neill. Debbie and Darla Carr are staying with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Peter, O’Neill while their parents are working in the hayfield. Miss. Cathy Doolittle completed her eight weeks course of study at the Lawrence, Kan. college and returned home last weekend. Cathy will be a senior at Atkin son high this year. She received an award for this study through the Fine Art Department of the Atkinson school. Mr. and Mrs Claude Hull, Pierce, were Friday overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Hull. Paul and Pamela craig, cnna ren of the late Capt Glenn Craig, returned Monday to their home at San Luis Obispo, Calif., after spending three weeks visiting at the Fred Spence home and with Mrs. Gratia Craig. The three children of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Richards, Grand Is land, returned home with Mr. Carl Spencer after spending two weeks at the Fred Spencer home. A picnic was held at the Fred King home Wednesday afternoon in honor of Mike and Maurice Darnell, Scottsbluff, who were visiting here the past week. Twen ty six children attended. Mavis Pinkerman was honored at a birthday supper at 6:30 p. m. at the Lynch Park. About 15 teenagers attended. Norma Darnell was honored on her birthday Saturday evening with a party of 40 teenagers for an outdoor barbecue. Japanese Lantern lights decorated the pa tio. Colored slides were shown by Mr. Darnell of school activi ties of the past year. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Derickson and family called on Mr. and Mrs. Don Puckett and David Ray, Butte, Sunday. Mr. Lester Derickson is work ing at the Truman Rossman home, Atkinson, helping with haying. Cub pack meeting, dens 1 and 2, Pack 2&4, was held at tb« school auditorium Wednesday, July 25, at 8 p.m. Twelve cubs were present with their parents. Bob Cat pins were awarded to the following boys: Steve Craw ford, Bruce Cozine, Brad Duck er, Quenton Pickering, Brad Spencer, Ricky Pritchett, Robert Hill, Roger Hill, David Lee, Ralph Lee and Roger Lee. Wolf badges were awarded to Steve Crawford, Bruce Cozine, Brad Ducker, Quenton Schrunk and Ricky Pritchett. The next meeting will be Aug. 29 at the school house. Games of skill were played by the boys. Each boy built a cage which contained a pet and they were judged. Steve Crawford took first place followed by Bruce Cozine and Brad Ducker.
