PAGE Mr. and Mrs. John Matranga, New Orleans, La., an nounce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Jeanie Claire, to I>r. Lionel Chelses Ickes, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. D. Ickes, sr., Page. Miss Matranga is a graduate of Edgewood Preparatory school. I>r. Ickes attended the University of Nebraska and is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Ft. Collins, with a doctor of veter inary medicine degree. He presently is in service, stationed at New Orleans. Ur. Ickes will return to private practice with his brother, Ur. M. \V. Ickes, at Nampa, Ida., at the expiration of his service assignment. The wedding is planned for May 12 in the garden at the bride elect's home at Elmwood, a river road plantation at New Orleans. Son-in-law Transfem-d Mrs. Harry Lansworth went to Lyons, Kan. Sunday to meet her daughter, Mrs. Tom Langan. Mrs. Langan was returning from Ft. Sill, Okla., where her husband is stationed. Mrs. Lansworth and her daughter returned to O’Neill Tuesday. Mr. Langan will be transferred to Ft. Lewis, Wash, where his wife will join him in the near future. Attend Convocation Delegates of the First Metho dist church fellowship attended a State Youth Fellowship convo cation Friday to Sunday at the University of Nebraska campus. Attending were Linda Gilder sleeve, Diane Gillespie, Kenneth Peacock and Christine Herley. They were accompanied by Mrs. Reed Herley. f -- Celebrates 93rd Birthday EWING — Mrs. Amelia Lar sen celebrated her 93rd birthday Sunday. In honor of the occasion Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hahlbeck were hosts at a dinner party. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ar thur Erb, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Erb and family, Orchard; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Michael, Clearwa ter, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Erb, Don and Maurice Hahlbeck, John Cork and Sara Holman, Ewing. The two daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Erb sang a birthday son for Mrs. Larsen. Delta Dek Meets Mrs. C. J. Gatz entertained the Delta Dek bridge club with a din ner at the M & M cafe followed by bridge in the home of the hos tess. Attend Fair EWING — Thirty-two students of the Ewing high school took part in the sixth annual Science Fair at the Nebraska State Teachers college in Wayne Fri day, sponsored by the Northeast ern Nebraska Junior Academy of Science. Participating were the Juniors, exmbiting two projects, sopho mores, five; freshmen, four, and the seventh and elighth grades, three. These were classified in three groups: biology, physics and general science. Fix tension Club Meets CELIA — Members of the Celia Hornem;tkers Extension club vot ed to sponsor a combination ba zaar, lunch and bake sale in May when toey met recently at the Robert Hendricks home with Mrs. Duane Beck as co-hostess. The finance committee, Mrs. Helen Beck, Mrs. Pauline Beck and Mrs. Merrill Smith, presented fund-raising proposals after the lesson which was given by Mrs. Helen Beck. The club approved the presentation of a door to be given to the Atkinson Township Library in memory cf the late Paul Johnson. The next meeting will have Mrs. Mabel Hammer berg and Mrs. Pauline Beck as co-hostesses. Mrs Juracek Honored CELIA — Mrs. Antonia Jura ci k was guest of honor at a fam ily dinner at her home in Naper Sunday in observance of her 79th birthday. Her granddaughter, Mrs. Harry Neiman, Wakefield, and Mrs. Ernest Juracek, Naiper, presented decorated cakes. Three of her children and their fam ilies were among those present: Mrs. Herman Meyer, Mrs. Gar old Hoyt and Ernest Juracek. A sen, William, Waasa, was unable to attend. Other relatives were present from Atkinson, Wayne Wakefield, O’Neill, Naper, New port, Winner, S. D., and Las Ve gas, Nev. Miss Smith Honored CELIA — Miss Doris Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merrill 9mith, was honoree at a pre-nup tial shower given by the mem bers of the Celia Homemakers Extension club at the regular meeting Wednesday afternoon, Mar. 28, at the the home of Mrs. Robert Hendricks. Mrs. Duane Beck was assistant hostess. Mrs. Hans Lauridsen and Mrs. Ma bel Hammerberg were in charge of the entertainment. Mrs. Milton McKathnie recorded the gifts. Miss Smith will be married to Daryl Starr, Stapleton in June. Both are students at the Univer sity of Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kropp of Ewing announce the engagement of their daughter, Sharon Kay, to Jim A. Araji, son of Mrs. Karcm A. Araji, Baghdad, Iraq. Miss Kropp is a graduate of the Ewing high school, attended Wafne State Teachers college and is presently teaching near Brunswick. Mr. Araji is a senior graduate at the University of Nebraska where he is affiliated with the Epsilon Chi Tau Fraternity and Ls social chairman of the Ne braska International Association. CONNIES ... Club Meeting Held The Goose Lake 4-H club meet ing was held in the District 73 school March 23. Roll call was answered by naming their fav orite food. Injuries Knee EWING — Bertha Harris, a senior nurse’s aid at the Plain view General hospital, is confined to her home in Ewing with a knee injury which required a cast. She is able to get about with the aid of crutches. Last Meeting Planned Friends of St. Mary's last meeting of the school year will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the school gym. The first and second grades will present a demonstration on the abacus, a new method of teaching arith metic. Installation of officers will be held. Gives Recital AMELIA — Marcia Widman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Widman, presented a piano re cital Tuesday, Mar. 27, in Kliuger i Forum on the college campus, j Marcia is a second year student at Morningside College, la. She; is a member of the Mu Phi Ep silon National Music sorority. Mr. and Mrs. Widman attended the recital. McCoy Is Delegate Sapt H. L. McCoy went to Chi cago with his wife Sunday, Mar. 25, to attend the North Central Educational Association confer ence. He attended as a delegate from the Nebraska Educational association. Mr. and Mrs. Mc Coy returned home Friday eve ning. To Buy Merchandise Mrs. Winnie Barger and Mrs. Melvin Ruzicka went to Grand Is land Wednesday where Mrs. Bar ger selected her Jantzen sports wear for fall. They were guests of Mrs. Gordon Wilcox while in Grand Island. Sister-m-law Dies Mrs. Leigh Reynokison has re ceived word of the death of her sister-in-law, Mrs . Frank M. Gross, Saturday at Norwalk. Calif., following an asthma at tack. Services were held at Nor walk this week. Grandfather Dies The Rev. John Hart received word Friday of the death of his grandfather, Mr. Hart, at Enid. Okla. Funeral services were held Monday and the Hart family left Sunday to attend the services, j Family Dinner HrM Approximately 30 persons at tended a family dinner Sunday evening at the First Presbyterian church. A no-host meal was served followed by the showing of a film winch explained the making of a will. Mrs. Coburn Entertains A discussion on the different uses of spices and herbs was held March 27 when Mrs. Harold Co burn entertained the Eagle Belles Extension club There was also a lesson on “Home and Family Protection” Mrs. Ed Prouty. The next meeting will be held September 18 at the home of Mrs. Ted Crawford. Mrs. Burges* Entertains Mrs. L. A. Burgess entertained members of the Delta Dek and Martez clubs Tuesday evening with a dinner at the Town House. Bridge was played at the home of the hostess. Bird Hikes Planned Members of the Eager Beaver 4-H club met Monday in the Dis trict 33 schoolhouse. Two bird hikes were planned and reports were given concerning the habits of birds. Plans were discussed for a Easter party to be held Ap ril 20 at 3 p.m. in the school. The meeting was closed with songs and games. Jim Widtfeldt, re porter. Mr. and Mrs. Walt Donohoe took their son, Donald, to Lincoln Thursday for a medical check-up. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Price and sons, Genoa, were weekend guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Price and Mrs. Elma Evans. Dinner guests Saturday of Mrs. Evans’ were the out-of-town visitors, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Price and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Price and family. Mrs. Vannie Newman returned March 24 from Kimball where she has been visiting for several months with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Babl and children. The Babls brought her home and visited his parents, Mr. ami Mrs. Joe Babl. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Allendorfer are staying in Omaha with their sons and families since their re lease from St. Anthony’s hospital. Larry Godel, Chadron, visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Godel, for the weekend. John Harder* Hastings, spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Harder. Mrs. J osephine Janousek is leaving for New York City April 4. Her stay will be indefinite. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Froelich returned Thursday from a 2 month vacation in California. They were guests of Mr. and Mrs. V/ J. Montgomery at Tem ple City while visiting in Cali fornia. Helen Sullivan spent the week end in Omaha. She returned Mon day night. Sandy Melichar, Naomi Russell and Mary Morsbach, Neligh, who attend school in Norfolk, were Sunday visitors of Susan and Sally Burney. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Heriford left Monday to attend funeral servi ces of a friend at Fremont. Rural Music Festival Scheduled for Friday A rural school program, Music Festival, will be presented Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the public school auditorium by the students in the county at two separate places that day, the Atkinson junior high school at 8:30 a m., and in the O’Neill courthouse at 1 p m. Additional activities scheduled in April and May for rural stu dents include a rural track meet for third through eighth grades April 27; eighth grade tour to Sioux City, la., May 1, and eighth grade promotion exercises, May 11. Butte Club Is Considering Senior Home BUTTE Members of the Butte Community club met Tues day evening, Mar. 27. at which time a discussion was held con cerning a Senior Citizens tiome and a committee was upiminted to investigate the possibilities of such a home in Butte. Bud Valentine Plan* Re-Opening of Cafe Re-opening of the 94-Hour cafe was tttiKHiiiced this week hy the new operator, Burt Valentine. Valentine, who has operated cafes In Ainsworth. Johnstown and Lusk, Wye., said he plans to re-name the cafe Bud's Cafe.
