July 26, 1961 9:00 A. M. Holt County Board met on this date according to Statute for hearing on Budget. All members present except Davis. Meeting calk'd to order by the Chairman. Minutes of the pre vious meeting were read and ap proved as read. This was the time set by Sta tute for Hearing on the Budget. No one appeared. Motion by McConnell, seconded by Ernst to adopt the following Resolution. Motion carried. RESOLUTION WHEREAS, there has been pre sented to the Board of Holt Coun ty, Nebraska, a duly certified transcript of the proceedings of a Special Meeting and election held by the Electors of School District No. 6 of Holt County, Ne braska, on July 20th, 1961, where in the electors of said School Dis trict, have according to law, vot ed to build a new School House in said District at a cost of not to exceed the sum of $15,000.00, and to equip the same, and for the irurpose of paying for said School Buildings and equipping the same, said School District has voted to levy a special tax in addition to all other general school taxes in the amount of four mills on the dollar upon the assessed value of all the taxable property, in such District, except intangible property, for a period of ten years, said levy and tax to commence in the year 1962 ana WHEREAS, the Board of Su pervisors have carefully reviewed the record of said proceedings and has found the same to be legal and in all respects to comply with law and has approved the same in all particulars, NOW THEREFORE, Be it re solved by the Board of Supervi sors of Holt County, Nebraska, that the action of the electors of said School District No. 6, be, and the same hereby is ratified and confirmed in all respects and particulars, and that said record of such proceedings shall be en tered upon the records of the County Board, and that there shall hereafter be levied com mencing in the year 1962, a spe cial tax in the amount of four mills on the dollar upon all the taxable property in such School District No. 6, except intangible property, for a period of ten suc cessive years for the purposes aforesaid, and that said School District shall be authorized to pro ceed with the purpose of said School House and the equipping thereof, and that the School Board be authorized to issue war rants for such purpose, all as provided by law. Roll Call Vote was taken there on, which resulted as follows: AYES: Landreth, Dierking, Flood. Smith, Ernst, McConnell. NAY9: None. Whereupon the Chairman of the Board declared said Reso lution has received more than a majority of the affirmative votes of the whole Board and the same was duly passed and adopted. 10:00 A. M. Motion by Smith, seconded by Flood, to grant District No. 3, to trade Crawler Tractor, and also Pickup (new or used). Motion carried. RESOLUTION Be it resolved by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Holt, that the County Attorney of said county be absolved from the duty and obligation of making quarter ly reports to this Board showing final disposition of all criminal cases in said County. A roll call vote being taken on said resolution resulted as fol lows: Aye: Dierking Landreth, Flood, Smith, Ernst, McConnell. NAY: None. Said Resolution hav ing received affirmative vote of the majority Board of Supervisors, the Chairman declared the same duly passed and adapted, and or dered the same recorded. Motion by Ernst, seconded^ by Smith, the following Claim be cancelled. Motion carried. MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEET ING OF SCHOOL DISTRICT NO 89 OF HOLT COUNTY, NEBRAS KA, HELD MAY 27, 1961 A special meeting of the School Board was held on May 27, 1961. Present were Albert Wasson, president, Ralph 9chrunk, Secre tary, and Edward Sterns, Trea surer. Thereupon Edward Sterns offer ed the following Resolution and moved its adoption: Be it resolved by the School Board of School District No. 89 of Holt County, Nebraska, as fol lows: 1. A special meeting of the vot ers of School District No. 89 is hereby called and shall be held at the School House in said School District No. 89 of Holt County, Nebraska, on the 5th day of June. 1961, at the hour of 8:00 P. M. al which meeting there shall be sub mitted to the voters of said school district the following propositions, to-wit: PROPOSITION 1: Shall a building tax of five (5) mills be levied each year for a period of ten (10) years, begin ning with the tax year 1961, said levy or levies to produce a total amount of $18,000.00 to be expend ed for the following purpose, to wit: The building of a new school house and the equipping thereof, said school house to be erected on real estate to be leased or pur chased by said district. PROPOSITION 2: And shall the 9chool Board pro ceed at once to carry out the purpose of said levy and issue warrants against the funds voted as provided in Nebraska School Laws. PROSPOSITION 3 The moving of the location of the school house from the present site to a new location in the Southwest Corner of the South west Quarter of the Southwest Quarter of Section 15, Township 30, Range 13, Holt County, Ne braska. 2. The secretary is ordered to cause notice of said special meet ing to be given to the voters of said district by posting up copies thereof in three public places within the district as provided by law. The foregoing Resolution hav ing been read, Ralph Schrunk seconded the motion for its pass age and adoption, and after dis cussion the roll call on the ques tion of passing and adopting the Resolution was taken, the follow ing voting in favor of the pass age and adoption of the same: Albert Wasson, Ralph Schrujnk and Edward Sterns. The following voted against said Resolution: none. The foregoing Resolution sub mitted the foregoing Propositions to the voters of School District No. 89 at a special meeting to be held on June 5, 1961, having been consented to by a majority of the School Board, said resolution was passed and adopted. Schrunk MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE VOTERS OF SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 89 OF HOLT COUNTY, NEBRASKA, HELD AT THE SCHOOL HOUSE IN SAID DISTRICT ON JUNE 5, 1961 The meeting was called to or* der by President Albert Wasson with 51 voters present. It was then announced by the president of the school board that pursuant to a resolution passed by said school board at a special meeting that a vote would be ta ken at this special meeting on the following three propositions as set out in the ballot to be dis tributed, said ballot being as fol lows, to-wit: PROPOSITION No. 1: Shall a building tax of five (5) mills be levied each year for a period of ten (10) years, begin ning with the tax year 1961, said levy or levies to produce a to tal amount of $18,000.00, to be ex pended for the following purpose, to-wit: The building of a new school house and the equipping thereof, said school house to be erected on real estate to be leased or pur chased by said district. After the vote was taken, the ballots were then counted and the results of said vote were an nounced as follows, to-wit: For Proposition 1 — 36; For Proposition 2 — 37; For Proposition 3 — 38; Against Proposition 1 — 12; Against Proposition 2 — 10; Against Proposition 3 — 10; The President then announced that Proposition 1, Proposition 2 and Proposition 3 had carried by more than 55% of the persons voting tereon. Upon motion made and second ed, the meeting adjourned. Albert Wasson, President Ralph R. Schrunk, Secre tary MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 89. HELD JUNE 5, 1961 at 9:00 P. M. The School Board of District No. 89 of Holt County, Nebraska, met at the school house in said District on the 5th day of June, 1961. Present were Albert Was son, President, Ralph Schrunk, Secretary and Edward Sterns. Treasurer, they being all the members of the School Board. Edward Sterns then offered the following Resolution and moved its adoption, to-wit: RESOLVED by the School Board of School District No. 89 of Holt County, Nebraska, that we are satisfied that all the re quirements of Sections 79-422 and 79-423 and other pertinent statu tes have been complied with and that more than 55% of all voters present and voting at said spec ial school district meeting held this date are in favor of the build ing tax heretofore submitted. Be it farther resolved that such propositions and all the proceed ings had thereon be entered upon the records of this School District and that the special tax levy so voted be certified to the County Clerk as in the case of other tax levies. The foregoing Resolution hav ing been read, Ralph Schrunk seconded the motion for its adop tion, and after discussion, the roll call on the question of passing and adopting the resolution was taken, the following voting in fa vor of the passage and adoption of the same: Albert Wasson, Ralph Schrunk and Edward Sterns: The follow ing voted against the adoption of said Resolution: None. The foregoing Resolution hav ing been consented to by a ma jority of the School Board, said resolution was declared passed and adopted. On motion, duly seconded, the Board adjourned. Schrunk, Sec retary CERTIFICATE OF BUILDING FUND TAX LEVY To the County Clerk of Holt County, Nebraska: We, the undersigned School Board, of School District No. 89 of Holt County, Nebraska, do hereby certify that on the 5th day of June, 1961, at 8:00 P. M., a special meeting was held in Scho ol District No. 89 of Holt County Nebraska; that said special meet ing was called by the school board and notice was given as provided in sections 79-423 and 79-503 and 79-504, Revised Statutes of Ne braska, to vote upon a proposition to levy a building fund tax of five (5) mills each year for a period of ten (101 years, beginning with the tax year 1961, said levy or levies to produce a total amount of $18,000.00 to be expended for the following purposes, to-wit: The building of a new school house and the equipping thereof, said school house to be erected on real estate to be leased or pur chased by said district. We have carefully examined all the proceedings pertaining to said meeting and the vote taken on said propositions at said meet ing and are satisfied that all 11 of the provisions of the law, es pecially sections 79-422 and 79-423 have been substantially complied with and that 55% of all the votes cast at said meeting are in favor of such tax. Such propositions and all the proceedings had thereon were thereupon ordered to be entered on the records of said school dis-1 trict and we hereby certify said special tax levy to you and ask . that it be levied against the pro perty of said district as other le vies. Motion by Dierking, seconded by McConnell, that the County Treasurer be granted authority to have personal property tax strick en, but still collectable on per sons, moved from State, County or deceased. Motion carried. 2:00 P. M. This was the time set for opening bids on 3/4 Ton Pickup. After examining the bids motion was made by Dierking seconded by Ernst that Smith Motor Company, being the low bid be accepted. Motion carried. Motion by Ernst, seconded by Dierking that the County Adver tise* for Bridge Bids. Bids to be opened August 31, 1961 at 11:00 A. M. Motion carried. 3:30 P. M. Landreth CHAIRMAN Celia News Mrs. Merrill Anderson The Celia 4-H club vocal group rehearsed Thursday eve ning with Mrs. LeRoy Hoffman preparatory to competing at the State Fair in Lincoln Saturday. Included in the group are Mary Katherine and Patricia Kilmur ry, Dorothy and Mary Poes snecker, Patricia Straka, Vicki and David Frickel and Roger Hoffman. They will be accompa nied at the piano by Mrs. Hoff man, who will be taking them to Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ernst and Mr. and Mrs. Leon Hendricks and family, Manhattan, Kans., arrived Friday evening and are spending a few days at the Ro bert and Mark Hendricks homes. They attended the Ernst family reunion held at O’Neill Sunday, and the Robertson reunion Mon day held at the Sam Robertson home north of O’Neill. They left for Manhattan Monday. Mrs. LeRoy Hoffman and Mrs. Emil Colfack were in O’Neill Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Davids and family, Knowak, la., were Thurs day overnight guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Focken. Susan Davids remained at the Focken home and ac companied Mr. Focken, Karen and June to Miller, S. D., Friday where the girls will enroll at the Sunshine Bible Academy. June \yill be a senior and Karen, a junior. Dinner guests Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Hendricks were their sons, Ro bert and Leon and their families, also Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Ernst, Manhattan, Kans. Dorothy Scott was a supper guest Sunday evening at the Duane Beck home. Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Hoffman and sons were evening visitors. The Beck fami ly visited at the Alvin Heiser home Thursday. Edith Chaffin spent Friday and Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Hendricks. Rollin and Verdon Smith, Page, spent the week at the Leonard Chaffin home. Mr. and Mrs. Merle Lewis and family, Longford, Kan., were supper guests Wednesday eve ning at the Leonard Chaffin home. Their daughter, Phillis Lewis, is teaching the McKathine school. Fred IJndberg Mr. and Mrs. Ted Crawford and Pamela arrived home Satur day after a couple of weeks va cation. They went to Belle Fourche where their daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Whetham and child ren, accompanied them to Law rence Crawfords at Sundance, Wyo; then to Saco, Mont., where they visited Roy Haynes and Mrs. Elmer Lamb. They journey ed to Newport, Wash, via Glaci er Park to visit Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Staples and family and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Orr and their son, Daryl Orr who has charge of a watch tower. The tower in which he works is 3# feet high and the room is about 14 ft. square. In Montana they have reported 525 fires this sea son. They returned through Yel lowstone Park and visited at the homes of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Da vid, Helen Lewis, Ronald and Veldon Crawford. They report seeing much dry country on their trip. The two children of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Huston, Emmet, are staying this week with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Schmitz while their parents are attending one week of school at Logan, U. Mrs. Huston received a new automobile August 20 at North Platte and was promoted to district manager for the Tap perware company. The children of the late John A Robertson held a family re union Monday at the Sam Ro bertson home about 15 mill's northeast of O’Neill. Those at tending were John, San Jose.; Ray, South Sioux City: George and Sam, O’Neill; Helen Sun dall, Wakefield; Harriet Me Elhaney, Lincoln; Rachel Ov erton, Alliance: Rebecca Ernst, Manhattan, Kan., and James, Scottsbluff. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ernst, Velda, David and Jean Schon were Thursday evening sut»per guests at Austin Searles. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kamphaus and family were Friday evening supper guests at Carl Kroghs. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Harding and their grandchildren attended a birthday party at Axel Borgs Wednesday night in honor of Ken ny Harding’s birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fox and Jimmy Spencer were Monday dinner guests at Martha Johrings.
