Carpenter Seventeen members and one visitor were present at the meet ing of the WSCS at the Methodist church when they met Thursday for the closing session of the mis sion study on "Luke’s Portrait of Christ." Mrs. Louis Neilson gave the last chapter followed by a summary of the entire book by Mrs. E. R. Carpenter. Mrs. Dar rell Gillette presided at the busi ness session. It was voted to give $2 to the Wesleyan University Educational Council in honor of Society’s president, Mrs. Guais Wintermote and the pastor’s wife, Mrs. Charles Cox. Lunch was served by the hostesses Mrs. Raymond Shoemaker and Mrs. Clarence Damme. Mr. Bob Meline of Kearney, a former Chambers high school teacher, visited Mrs. Hattie Tib bets and other friends Sunday. Mr. Meline is teaching in Bartlett this year after spending the sum mer at Cheyenne, Wyo. Mr. and Mrs. Duane Miller of O'Neill were Wednesday evening visitors in the Wayne Smith home. Some 1,200 persons enjoyed the barbecue dinner at noon Monday. The fine fight program drew a throng of people. The ballgames, races, band, midway, saddle club and talent show were of the finest en tertainment. The square dance on Monday night drew representa tives from clubs from Columbus, Belgrade, Albion, St. Edward, O’Neill, Page and Neligh. Pleasant Dale Club Pleasant Dale Home Extension club have postponed their meet ing from the regular date until September 15 when they will meet with Mrs. Herbert Spahn. There will be election of officers and the lesson, "Personality and Charm,” will be presented. Clearwater schools opened August 31 with Casper Engle haupt as the new superintendent. Kindergarten will not begin until the second semester. Classes for high school and grades regis tered Wednesday and were dismis sed until the following morning. Jim Workman was taken to the Tilden hospital early Thursday morning. F.Ik horn Valley Elkhorn Valley Home Extens ion club met Wednesday, Aug. 24 in the Methodist church base ment. Nine members answered roll call. The approaching State convention was discussed. There was little business, so the group turned the meeting over to the “Stitch and Hoe" 4-H club and their leader, Mrs. Lyle Medcalf. The girls held a style show and gave a few demonstrations. They displayed a wide variety of handicraft that they had made the past year and it was to be judged at the county fair. Lunch was served by mothers of the 4-H members. Y ML tlub YML club met Thursday with Mrs. Douglas Hemenway. Mrs. Orval Hankla presided. The group voted to buy coffee mugs for the winter purties. The new Constitution was read. The af ternoon was spent making toaster covers. Mrs. Hemenway served lunch at the close of the after noon. Next meeting will he with Mrs. John Koenig. Norman Thompson of tic neva, has been named the new manager of Contois Brothers here. Mr. Thompson who Is married and has four children will replace Donald Mauldlng who has resigned after five years as manager ami IS years of service with the company. Mrs. Robert Fisher of St. Ed ward and her daughter, Mrs. Yvonne Biddix and her little daughter, Pamela, of Pensocola, Fla , spent the weekend at the E. L. Sisson home. Mr. and Mrs. Gakle und their two daughters, Paula, 3 Vi years old and Nancy, 20 months, have en tered the life of the community. Sunday Fred captured the trophy in the championship flight of the O' Neill golf tournament. Fred and Kay moved to O'Neill from Lincoln but they are both former residents of Norfolk. Kay is a graduate nurse of the Nebraska Methodist hospital at Omaha. She enjoys bridge as a hobby. Fred is a veteran of four years in the navy and golf is his hobby.
