Training School
At Ewing Church
An officer’s training school will
be held Wednesday, June 15, at
2 pin. at the Ewing Methodist
church parlors with Mrs. W. W.
Elliott and Mrs. Robert Embree
of O’Neill in charge.
The committee appointed to call
on those sick and elderly in the
community for the month of June
was Mrs. Willis Rockey and Mrs.
James Tinsley. New date books
were ordered by Mrs Anna Pol
lock, secretary of literture. The
meeting was opened by Mrs.
James Tinsley, the new vice-pres
ident, with a thought for the day
“This Is To-day”.
Devotions were conducted by
Mrs. Earl Billings and the lesson
was presented by Mrs. Rockey,
the theme was, "Set Apart For
Me”.
Mrs. Rockey beginning her sec
ond year as president was in
charge of the business meeting.
There will be a training class an
missionary education in charge of
Mrs. Charles Gates, Monday, June
20 at Page and Star Valley and
also at Chambers.

by the Missionary Society.
The decorations theme was car
ried out in pink, green, yellow and
blue. A colorful bow of ribbon was
pinned on each guest as they reg
istered.
Honors went to Mrs. William
Ross as the oldest mother present;
Mrs. Leo Miller and Mrs. Floyd
Butterfield for the most daughters,
each having four, and Mrs. Z. H.
Fry for having the greatest num
ber of granddaughters present.
Mrs. Ralph Shrader gave the wel
come to the daughters and Mrs.
Floyd Butterfield, the welcome to
the mothers.
A hat style parade, with Mrs.
Vearl Tuttle as narrator, was one
of the numbers of the afternoon
program. Other selections were a
duet by Mrs. Wendell Switzer ana
Mrs. Wilbur Spangler, the seventh
and eighth grade girls sang ‘‘Baby
Your Mother”, and preschool girls
in costume, sang ‘‘Did You Ever
See Your Mother Go This Way and
That?”. Mrs. Wilbur Sfwngler was
the pianist.

Fifty-Ninth Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tomjack of
Ewing celebrated their fifty-ninth
wedding anniversary Thursday.
In the evening relatives arrived
at their home to join them in cel
ebrating the occasion. The lunch
served included tlie decorated an
niversary cake baked by Mrs.
Floyd Lee, a sister of Mrs. Tom
jack.

Verdigre residents are enjoying
their television more since a new
booster tower was installed on the
Vac Pavelik farm north of Verdi
gre. Residents are now receiving
a Sioux Falls channel. As soon
as funds become available the first
tower will be improved to bring
in a stronger signal.
Attend MYF Camp

the Northeast district MYF camp
held last week at Camp Fonta
nelle near Arlington, Nebr.
Over 30 campers from Bloom
field, Neligh, Verdigre, Wausa,
Ainsworth, O'Neill, Dakota City,
Wayne and Ewing.
Lily Kho, an exchange student
from Singapore, was a special
guest. She showed films and told
about her home land.
Cook-outs, discussion groups, and
worship were enjoyed through the
week.
The Verdigre Daughter of Ameri
ca, who organized the order a year
ago, had election of officers re
cently in the auditorium of St.
Wenoeslaus Catholic church.

Gateway pillars that have stood j
for 42 years at the Riverside [
cemetery a mile northeast of Ver-:

are being replaced with brick pil
lars. They are a donation from the
Wostrel family in memory of their
mother. Mrs. Mary Wostrel. a long
time resident of the community.

Ted D. Ward has signed his con
tract to teach Vocational Agricul
ture as he has done the past year
in Verdigre Adolph Kotrous,
secretary of the Board of Educa
tion announced that Verdigre high
school has but one vacancy in the
teaching staff which is band in
structor and music.
A laree Catherine met Memorial
Day at the Verdigre park where
the American Legion Post 259 and
Legion Auxiliary sponsored the
Memorial program. The Legion
and the Verdigre school band,
under the direction of John Blezek,
paraded to the city park.

The wedding of Jeri Coday and
Bob Klahenes of Chambers was

church in Amelia. Jeri lived in
the Amelia community when she
was a child. She is the grand
daugnter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
Fry, also formerly of Amelia.

home Saturday. Marilyn and Julie
Rees and Judy Taylor, who had
been visiting with their grandpar

well with their mother. James Rees
stayed to visit his cousins, Robin
and John Taylor and Grandpa and
Orandma Rees. The Bob Rees fam
ily expected to return to their
nome in Denver this weekend af

Floyd Adams spent several days

service that day, having been as

ish. Rev Francis Price, former
pastor, was sent to Cedar Rapid.

The 4-H Willing Workers of O’
Neill drove to the Lee Brady sr.
home on Steel Creek for breakfast
Sunday morning. After breakfast
they drove to the Tom Alder farm,
then to Niobrara and then Devil’s
Nest, Santee and Gavins Point.
They had a picnic dinner in the
Gavins Point park. They returned
to O’Neill in the evening. Mrs. Lee
Brady, sr., accompanied the group
to the points of interest that they
visited.

Pamela visited at the Gordon Bar
ta home Sunday.

family of White River, S. D., vis
ited her sister, Mrs. Howard Slack,

community about thirty years ago.
He spent his boyhood days in this
community and attended school at
