The days of buffalo hunts and rounding up long-horn cattle may be gone but a few species of each still remain in the Beef Empire. Fred UhHr, who ranches northwest of Orchard, has both long-horn steers iuiil a herd of buffalo on his 31 hundred acre ranch- The long horns were purchased at Valentine and are as docile as any farm rained cattle. The buffalo also are tame but prefer to be left alone. Visitors to the ranch can approach the animals to within a few hundred feet in a car but they simply turn and walk away when approached on f<x»t. The herd now consists of si* old buffalo and two calves. The I'hlirs regard the animals as |*ets and the buffalo in turn seem content to live out their lives on the ranch were grass and water are plentiful and Interruptions In their dally L fe are not to numerous.
