Last Week News
Mr and Mrs James Mlnarik
celebrated their 25th wedding ad
versary Sunday.
A 1130 dinner was served to the
immediate members of the family.
The three tiered white anniversary
cake with pink and silver decora
tions and topped with an orna
mental immature bride and groom,
flanked with candielabra was an
attractive centerpiece.
Present were the parents of the
couple, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ml
narik and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Serr.
Others were Mr. and Mrs. Dwight
Schroeder and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Dan Market, Karen and Lar
ry Mlnarik and Mr. and Mrs Le
land Finley and children. Mrs.
Finley, a sister of the groom, was
one of the attendants at the wed
ding twenty five yeans ago.
Open house from 2 to 5 p m at
the Mlnarik house was attended by
relatives and friends from Atkinson
Neligh, Elgin, Ewing, Clearwater,
Page and Gregory, S. D. Mrs
Serr mid children of the Mlnariks
were hosts
Mr. and Mrs. Mlnarik have made
Ewing their home since 1947. Mr.
Mlnank has been employed at the
Ewing Co-Operative Creamery for
several years.
Mr and Mrs Grover Shaw and
daughter took her sister Aim Don
ohue, to her home in O’Neill Sun
day. She had been a guest at their
home for the past week.
Several members of the Christian
Mothen of St Peters church are
making plans to attend the Dean
ery meeting to be held at Atkin
son, May Kith.
Mr. Wayne Parks of New Mex
ico was a guest Sunday at the
home of his brother and sister
in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold
Parks and family.

Mrs Homer Barton of Orchard
was the honored guest at the home
at her sister mid husband. Mr. and
Mrs Waldo Davis Sunday when
she celebrated her birthday. A one
p. m. dinner was served. Present
were Mr. Barton, Mrs. Louise
Beal, of Orchard, Mr. and Mrs
George Karabell of Tdden, Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Austin, Mrs. Leland
Alexander and Sheila all of Plain
view.
Mr and Mrs Floyd Butterfield,
jr., went to Atkinson to spend Sun
day at the home of his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Butterfield,
sr. Mrs Butterfield also attended
a shower for his sister, Miss Kay
Butterfield, who will be a June

Tihe Thursday Night Pitch club
met at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Waldo Davis with Mr. and Mrs.
William Spence of O'Neill, the co
hosts. Ail members were present.
High score was won by Mr. and
Mrs. G. D. Ryan. Low score went
to Mrs. Elmer Bergstrom and
Charles Rotherham.
Miss Kay Rotherham attended
the alumni banquet at St. Mary's
Academy at O’Neill Sunday eve
ning.
All members {dan to attend a
dinner m O'Neill Saturday evening
and later play cards at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. William Spence.
This will be the closing entertain
ment for the Thursday Night Pitch
club until later in the year.
The Methodist Youth Fellowship
were entertained Friday evening
at a parity at the annex of the
United Presbyterian church by
the Youth Fellowship. Preceding
the party, a devotional period was
held, with Miss Diana Shrader
leading the group smging. Miss
Sharon Johnston was pianist. A
film “The High Calling” was shown
at this time.
Games were played, in charge,
Sharon Johnston. The boys and
girls also enjoyed the new rec
reational games of ping pong and
shuffle board.
Lunch was served to the twenty
two members present.
Mrs. Floyd Butterfield was spon
sor of the party.
Neighbors gathered at the home
of Mr and Mrs Will Cornier Sat
urday evening about six with well
filled baskets for a birthday din
ner to honor Mrs Conner. Cards
were played during the evening.
Guests were Mr and Mrs Ben
Larsen Mr and Mrs Roland Horde,
Mrs. Elia Zeims, and Mrs. Eva
Kaczcr.

honoring their daughter, Mrs. Al
len York of Seattle, Wash. A pic
nic dinner was served on the spa
cious front porch of the Olson
home. The afternoon hours were
spent visiting. Others present were

family of Clearwater, Mr. and Mrs.

Mrs Fannie Schiffbauer fell one
rainy day last week as she was
going to the home of Mr. and
Mrs Dewitt Gunter. She received
a gash in her chin which required
several stitches besides other
scratches and bruises.
A party was held May 1 after
noon at the parlors of the First
Methodist church in Ewing when

in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Amos 9witzer
on their arrival at the church and

sisters. Lafayette Gunter of Hos
kins, attendant at the wedding
twenty-five years ago was seated
with Mr. and Mrs. Switzer.
The entertainment was a pro
gram arranged by friends and
relatives.
Rev. W. W. Elliott, gave the ben
ediction.
The refreshment table was cen
tered with a three tier anniversary
cake decorated in pink and silver
and topped with a ornamental sil
ver heart, centered with a “25”.
Tlhe cake was made by Mrs. Alvin
Nelson of Plainview assisted by
Mrs. William Bohl. Mrs. Leo Mil
ler and Mrs. Nelson cut and serv
ed the cake. Mrs. Wendell Swit
zer served the dark cake.
Mrs. Wayne Switzer poured and
Mrs. Marjorie McComon served
the punch. Several ladies assisted
in the kitchen.
Eighty-five relatives and friends
signed tlhe guest book in charge
of Mrs. Alfred Napier. They came
from Clearwater. Chambers, Ew
ing, Omaha, Syracuse, Hoskins,
Pience, Plainview.
April 3rd was the wedding anni
versary of Mr. and Mrs. Switzer
but due to road and weather con
ditions the celebration was post
poned.
Mrs. Wayne Kruntorad enter
tained a number of ladies at a
party at her home Tuesday after
noon.
Mrs. Charles Luben, who has
been a guest at the home of her
daughter and husband, Mr. and
Mrs. James Boies for several days
returned to her home in Inman on
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Miller
wene entertained on Sunday at the
home of his sister, Mrs. Edna Lof
quest.
Mrs. Grace Briggs is having her
house and wash house reshingled
this week. She also plans to have
a new floor and other repairs on
the large porch on the east and
south of her house.

Point on Tuesday, April 26 to visit'
at the home of Mrs Mike Phil

went to Columbus to attend a
church service where Rev. Lest
er Orkrff of Corpus Christi. TVs
was guest speaker. On Wednesday
Mrs Lofquest drove to Madison to
visit her uncle and aunt, Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Browning and her
cousin, Mrs Howard Wilcox. She
returned to her home in Ewing
on Thursday.
The American Legion auxiliary
announce that Saturday, May 1-1
will be Poppy Day for Ewing and
community. Plans will be complet
ed at the regular meeting of the
auxiliary to be held Thursday eve
ning. May 12 at the Legion Club
Mrs. H. R. Harris is Poppy chair
man.
The Annual fireman’s banquet
was held Tuesday evening at the
Legion Club served by the Amer
ican Legion auxiliary'. Mrs. R. H
Sham was in charge.
Table decorations were carried
out in a theme appropriate for the
occasion. In attendance were the
members of the Ewing Fire De
partment and members of the Rur
al Fire Department and their
wives.
Frank Noffke is fire chief for
the Ewing dapartment and Melvin
Rexine is chairman of the rural
department.
Miss Gloria Schroeder and Le
roy Shipps were umted in marriage
at St. Olive’s Lutheran chunch al
Norfolk on Wednesday, April 27
Attending from Ewing were her
parents, Mr. andi Mrs. Herman
Schroeder, and Mr. and Mrs,
Dwight Schroeder and family. Ot
hers were Mr. and Mrs. Bernard
Schroeder and family of Neligh and
Mr. and Mrs Bob Coover and son
Todd of Meadow Grove.
