Fruit Plate Combinations
Suggest Owen Parkinson
With April arriving like the pro
verbial lamb, let’s turn our meal
time food thoughts to salads. Crisp,
tart and refreshing salads play a
big part in most spring meals. And
we want them to be healthful, too.
Most fruit and vegetable salad
combinations are greatly improved
nutritionally when served with a
mound of cottage cheese, we are
reminded by Owen Parkinson, lo
cal salesman of the Meadow Gold
Dairy. It provides the protein that
may be lacking in the other foods
For example, here are several
salad combinations that team well
with cottage cheese, which Bea
trice Cooke, director of the com
pany’s Chicago test kitchens, has
developed.
Fruit Plate Combinations
1. Peach halves filled with cran
berry-orange relish; banana slices
dipped in Lemon juice; sweeten**
fresh or frozen blueberries.
2. Pear halves filled with Toktj
garpes; sweetened fresh or frozer
strawberries with a lime wedge
3. Slice of unpared apple; orangt
slice; grapefruit segment; avocadi
slices dipped in lemon juice; swee
dark cherries.
Vegetable Plate Combinations
1. Cooked green beans, carro
slices, cauliflowerets marinated u
French dressing.
2. Slices of scored, unpared cu
cumber; red onion slices, raddisl
slices.
3. Cooked asparagus spears; plun
or cherry tomatoes marinated ii
oil and vinegar dressing flavors
with herbs.

By Mrs. Floyd Johnson
Your reporter was sort of in
disposed last week (some call it
spring-fever), and missed our little
chat. And now with all the snow
gone, save for some in gulches,
and sheltered spots, and a few
lovely spring-like days, it’s really
a test of the will-power trying to
resist the urge to do things out
side when there is so much house
I cleaning to be done.
But isn’t it sort of worth the
] while and effort put forth in rak
injg the yard and cleaning off the
I iris beds, to see bow the new
growth seems to spurt up by in
ches every day. It will only be a
few days till those early dwarf
variety of iris will open into deep
purple orchid-like blooms and
soon to be followed by other and
later species. i
