No Permanent Peace

Memorial day services were held
at the Page School auditorium on
Saturday morning,
Pat Patterson of Stuart, gave the
address Mr. Patterson said
"There would be no permanent
peace by yeilding to the demands
of dictators; that to a communist
anything that advances commun
ism is legal.
"In Flanders Field" was mad
as a memorial to all the soldiers
killed in action. Memorial services
were also held at the cemetery.

The Amercan Legion was in
charge of the services.
Mr. and Mrs Merwyn French
entertained the graduating class of
1919 at their home on Saturday
evening. Members of the class pre
sent were Gertrude Leaver of lies

Antelope Memorial hospital in Ne
ligh Monday morning.
Mrs. Melivin Rexine and her
sister, Echo fisher of St. Edward
left by train on Saturday to visit
Mrs. 'Fisher’s daughter, Yvonne
and family, who moved recently
to Florida from Guam.

spent Sunday with her father who
is hospitalized in Norfolk.

Paul, 3 year-old son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ed Funk was painfully burned
on the legs Wednesday, May 26
when his jeans caught fire in a
trash fire. He is one of the twins.
He was in a Norfolk hospital.

feather-light and fine textured, re
ports Beatrice Cooke, director of
the company’s test kitchens in Chi
cago, where the recipe originated.
Cinnamon and cloves lend spicy
flavor while brown sugar gives it
the caramel effect.
Caramel Spice Cake
(Two 9-inch layers)
X cup butter
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
M: cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 egg yolks
2X cups sifted cake flour
\Vi teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
V\ teaspoon cloves
Ms teaspoon salt
IV4 cups buttermilk
2 egg whites, beaten stiff
Vz cup brown sugar, firmly
packed.
Cream together butter and sugars
until light and fluffy. Beat In vanil
la and egg yolks. Add sifted dry
ingredients alternately with but
termilk; mix until smooth. Grad
ually heat Vi cup brown sugar In
to egg whites: continue beating
until mixture is stiff and glossy.
Fold into batter. Pour into 2
greased and floured 9-inch cake
pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30
minutes. Cool on cake rack 10 min
utes. Remove from*pans and cool.
Frost with a seven minute frosting
