A committee from the Riverside
Free Methodist church met with
two momliers of each of the other
churches in Ewing Monday after
mxm to plan the program and
time for reception for teachers in
the Ewing school. The Free
Methodist church is chairman
of die church group this year.
On Tuesday morning Mr. and
Mrs. Dale Napier and the Wayne
Fry family were guests to a steak
dinner at the Richard Napier
home in honor of Richard's birth
day anniversary.

Dale Napier home.
Mrs. Dale Napier assisted Mrs.
Wendell Switzer entertain the
United Presbyterian Missionary
society Thursday afternoon, Sep
tember 18. Mrs. Ralph Shrader re
viewed topics of the lesson. Mrs.
Richard Napier, the thank offer
ing secretary, gave parts to the
ladies who are to help her with

District VFW, Aux
Convention Held
Veterans of Foreign Wars and
auxiliary members of Nebraska's
district 11 held a fall meeting
here Sunday.
The VFW met at the national
guard armory while the auxilary
convened at the Odd Fellows hall.
Dinner was served at the hall.
Mrs. Josephine Sims of Ains
worth is the VFW' auxiliary dis
trict president and George Mor
lang of O'Neill is the district VFW
commander.
Towns represented were Valen
tine, Ainsworth and Bassett. Ever
ett Shelhoume, who is the assis
tant state quartermaster attended
the VFW meeting.
This was one of the regular dis
trict meetings.

held Tuesday evening, September
16, at the home of Elvin Hamil
ton, honoring Mrs. Hamilton and
her infant son, Mark Jason. Twen
ty ladies were in attendance. A so

Distress Warrants
Now Being Issued
Distress warrants are now being
issued by the county treasurer s
office for all unpaid 1957 and back
personal taxes, and must be turn
ed over to the sheriff on or be
fore Oetober 1, according to Holt
County Treasurer J. E. Hancock.
Payments made before October
1 will avoid additional expense.
The advertismg list for delin
quent 1957 taxes must lx' published
for three weeks beginning Octo
ber 9 Payment must be received
Ix'fore noon on Octolx'r 4 to be
stricken from the advertising
list. Payment made after October
4, will be in the list of publication
The cost of advertising is 5U
cents each description. To avoid
this additional expense, payment
must be made before n»x*n Octo
ber 4. Hancock explained.
There are only 35 days left for
teenagers to renew their drivers
licenses for another year.
All drivers between the ages of
16 to 20 must renew their licenses

31 to avoid taking another test for
a new license. These are the licen
ces with a letter C ahead of the
county prefex 36. The ones with
letter K will expire September 1,
1959.

White returned Tuesday from
Greenville. III., where they took
their daughter. Miss Myrtle, to
attend college. On their way home
they visited at the home of Mrs.
White's cousin. Frank Harnett, at
Bogard, Mo. This was the boy
hood home of Mrs. White's fath
er, S. C. Barnett of Amelia. He
livei’ on that place from three
years-old until coming to Nebras
ka at the age of 21.
Mrs. White brought him a bu
shel of pears picked from a tree
his mother had planted there. The
tree is about 60-years-old.

and Miss Kathleen Anderson of
Arnold, la., visited the Ander
son's daughter and her husband,
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Hurley, from
Sunday until Tuesday.
