Mrs. Spence Is
Feted at Ewing
EWING Mrs. William Spence
was . the honored guest at a 1
o’clock luncheon at the parlors
of the Ewing Methodist church
Tuesday. Mrs. Spence, who has
been a member of the Women’s
Society of Christian Service since
coming to Ewing about 10 years
ago. will soon move to O’Neill,
where Mr. Spence has been trans
ferred as depot agent for the Chi
cago & Northwestern railway.
While making their home in Ew
ing, Mr. and Mrs. Spence have
been active in church tiff airs.
They have one son who attends
the University of Nebraska.
A gift was presented Mrs.
Spence by the society.
Mrs. R. G. Rockey of West
Palm Beach, Fla., a former mem
ber of the WSCS here, was a
guest.

Kathleen Dufek, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dufek, celebrat
ed her eighth birthday anniver
sary Friday at a party at her
home. There were 16 little class
mates and friends present. Games
were played and refreshments
were served.

Strong, celebrated his fourth
birthday anniversary Wednesday
at a picnic at Ford's park. Thir

| Dick Laursen, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Virgil Laursen, submitted
I to surgery Tuesday at St. Vin
* cent's hospital in Sioux City. His j
j parents accompanied him and j
j his mother is remaining there, j
j Mr. Laursen returned home Wed- j
| nesday. Dick hurt his leg a year I
i ago in April while practicing j
j track. After being hospitalized j
and receiving treatment, he wore \
I a built up shoe. This operation |
| was performed on his good leg j
| to shorten it to match the one j
[ that was injured. . . Mrs. Donald
Walton was visiting her father in
j Plainview and had the misfortune
to step in a hole. She cracked
I her left ankle and will have to
| be in a cast for three weeks.
The cast was put on Tuesday. . .
Frank Clements went to Omaha
Monday for a medical checkup.
. . . Felix Sullivan, 76, who re
turned home June 5 following ma
jor surgery in a Sioux City hos
pital is ‘getting (dong fine”. . .
Victor Halva left Monday, June
16 for Grand Island for a medical
checkup at Veterans hospital.
ATKINSON "Mrs. Marjorie Gib
son left Wednesday for Omaha,
where she will receive medical
treatment. She has submitted to
surgery several times during the
past two years Her daughter
will remain with their grand
mother, Mrs. Florence Scripter,
while their mother is away. . .
James (“Jim”) Berigan submit
ted to surgery last week in St.
Joseph’s hospital in Omaha.
INMAN — Mrs. Lewis Kopecky i
is a patient in Antelope Memorial
hospital in Neligh. Mrs. Kopecky
submitted to major surgery on
Saturday morning. Mr. Kopecky
is staying with his son and daugh
ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. L. F.
Kopecky and son. . . Mrs. Pearl
Cary arrived home on Friday
from Antelope Memorial hos
pital in Neligh where she had
been a medical patient for a few
days
LYNCH — Otto Ruzicka was
taken to the Creighton hospital
Saturday evening by his son,
Frank, of Sioux City. Mr. Ruzicka
became ill Saturday. . . Bob
Sholes returned home from an
Omaha hospital Thursday after
having had surgery. He is feeling
some better.

Succumbs at 65

EWING — Louis Trumbull, 65,
of Allan, S. D., son-in-law of Mrs.
Caroline Sanders of Ewing, died
Wednesday, June 11, at the Mar
tin, S. D., hospital where he had
been suffering a heart ailment.
His widow is Ethel Trumbull.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, June 14, at Martin, and
burial was in the St. Peter’s
cemetery at Ewing. j

Mr. Trumbull had operated a
general store at Allan for a num
ber of years. Mrs. Trumbull is
postmaster there.

home of Humphrey Grill in Atkin
son with Mrs. Charlie Peterson
hostess. Mrs. Link Sageser,
president, presided over the
meeting that followed the dinner.
Roll call was answered by telling
a garden hint. Mrs. Vem Sage
ser gave a report on the Iris flow
er. Mrs. Blake Ott gave a read
ing "Mother and her club”. Mrs.
Ralph Rees presented a lesson on
small electrical appliances.
Next meeting is October 8 at
the home of Mrs. Eamie John
ston.

Short Cattle Run Today
There will be a short run of cattle—a very light seasonal
| run—at our sale Unlay (Thursday). A feature of the sale will
be 15 head of good two- and three-year-old Hereford bulls.
There will also be some calves and yearlings and some j
butcher cattle. All classes will be represented In this short sale.
There will be about 100 feeder pigs. Hog sale will start at
1 o'clock.
