for Mrs. John Haake, 83, were
conducted Friday, May 23 at 2
pm . at St. Paul’s Ijithoran
church. Rev. William Rolen offi
ciated.

Lloyd llilligas and Mrs. Victor

Oshkosh came Thursday, May 22,
and visited until Saturday with
her brother and sister-ui-iaw, Mr.
and Mrs. William Turner, and
other relatives. They attended
commencement exercises. Mr
and Mrs. Delos Edwards and girls
of Tekamah came Friday to vis
it the Turners and the Willard
Thomsons Mrs, Edwards is a
niece of Mr. Turner. They were
overnight guests in the Thomson
home.

baby of Palmyra have been re
cent visitors of her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Lyle Waiter and family,
Mrs Nellie Lewman of Or
chard spent from Tuesday, May
20, until Monday, May 26, with

The Victory Homemakers’ club
held a May meeting at the home
of Mrs Ray Timmerman with
covered dish dinner.
Mrs. Ray Tunender gave a
lesson on "electricity”.
Mrs. John Babl. Mrs. John
Schaaf. and Mrs. Joe Ramold jr.
received mystery sister gifts.
Entertainment was provided by
playing cards and exchanging
of plants Mrs. Joe Ramold jr.
won high prize. Mrs. Arnold
Crawford won the door prize.

held Monday. June 2. There was
also a roundtable discussion on
habits and habitat of different
birds.

Named All-Around
Cowboy at ‘ U ’
Ken Backhaus, an O'Neill high
graduate and a student at the
University of Nebraska college of
agriculture, last week was named
all-around cowboy at the annual
ag college rodeo. The event was
held on the ag college campus.
Backhaus bested other student
contestants by compiling the
highest cumulative point total in
the various rodeo events.
Soni Martin of Denton was
named all-around cowgirl. Martin
also is an ag college student.

Pink and white carnations in
tall vases and baskets of spring
flowers graced the altai and were
repeated in the reception hall.
The bride is a daughter of Mr
and Mrs B. II Stevens of Page.
The bridegroom is a son of Mr
Idor Johnson of Rutland, S. D.
The bride, given in marriage by
her father, appeared in a waltz
length gown of white nylon and
acetate lace. The moulded bodice
featured a square back neckline
with a huge bow at the waistline.
The full gathered skirt was fash
ioned with a pleated nylon net
front panel insert edged with lace,
over a ruffled net underskirt.
Her fingertip veil was held by
a juliette hat, daisy trimmed,
and site carried a bridal bouquet
fashioned in a crescent pattern
with pink streamers.
Mrs. Dennis La Pave, sister of
the bride, was matron-of-honor.
Her gown was an oft-the-shoulder
model of pastel blue dotted svviss
with a fitted bodice and a lull
stand-out skirt. She carried a
bouquet of pink carnations.
Dennis 1 .a Pave, brother-in-law
of ttie bride, served as bestman.
Kenneth -Stevens of Hoyt Lake,
Minn., and Elvin Stevens of San
Manuel, Ariz., brothers of the
bride, ushered. The men of the
party were attired in the conven
tional business suit and had white
carnat ion bout tonieres.
Ronnie Parks, nephew of the
bride, acting as a special usher,
sgated his grandmother, t h e
bride’s mother.
The mother of the bride ware
a beige linen duster over a beige
and brown printed silk dress.
Her accessories were tan. Her
corsage was fashioned of deep
pink carnations.
Immediately following the cere
mony' a reception was held in
Fellowship hall for 75 guests.
Those in charge of the arrange
ments were Mesdames Cordes
Walker, Gerald Lamason and Edd
Stewart. Mrs. Keith Cable poured
and Mrs. Elvin Stevens served the
cake. Jenelle Allen and Helen
Finch were waitresses.
Kathleen Walker presided over
the guest book and Mrs. Richard
Huxton of Omaha was in charge
of the gift table.
The bride is a graduate of the
Page high school and the Grand
Island Business college and was
employed at the Onida bank.
The bridegroom received his
education at Rutland, S. D., and
is employed at the agricultural
stabilization office at Onida.
The bride chose for her going
away costume a beige plaid ging
ham dress with green accessories.
Following a short wedding trip
through the Black Hills the couple
will be at home at Oneida.

Award at Exercises—
Miss Jane Petersen, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Petersen,
received the Americanism award
given by the American Legion
auxiliary. Simonson post 93 at
graduation exercises Thursday,
May 22. Up until the moment of
announcement, the identity of the
recipient was unknown to the
graduates.
The award was a $25 savings
bond to the outstanding all-around
girl of the senior class of O'Neill
high school.
Miss Joanne Lydon of Mission,
S. D., was the winner of the same
award at St. Mary’s academy.
