The doctors advised against
heart surgery now on a patient
so young. Little Andy Thomas
gained some weight while he was
in Omaha. , Mrs. Francis
("Fritz") Howard was rushed to
Sioux Ci.y late Sunday for an
emergency appendectomy at St.
Vincent’s hospital. Her condi
tion is "good". . . Miss Lorene
Wetzler submitted to major sur
gery Friday at St Anthony’s
hospital. She is employed at
Shelhamers Jack & Jill store. , .
Richard Minton returned Mon
day from the Veteran’s hospital
in Grand Island, where he had
a checkup . Quite a few per
sons are suffering from some
kind of a sickness that swells
throats . . Mrs. Ena Fox, 62,
who fell at her home Tuesday,
March 5, and was unconscious
for several days, is "improved"
at St. Anthony’s hospital Her
son, Jerry, was summoned from
Cheyenne, Wyo. . . Mr. and Mrs.
John Davidson, who were vaca
tioning in California, were cal
led back by the sudden illness of

who lives five miles west of
here, Saturday was taken by am
bulance to the Veterans hospital,
Grand Island.
CHAMBERS—Bill Held went
to Omaha Sunday to be with
Mrs. Held and their daughter,
Kay, when the latter submitted
to heart surgery on Monday,
March 11 at St. Joseph’s hospi
tal. . . The operation was a
success. . . Mr. and Mrs. Lyle
Wright and Arliss drove to
Sioux City Saturday to meet his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Wright. The latter had oeen at
Waterloo. Ia., where their son
in-law, Jack Taggart, was ser
iously ill in a hospital with
pneumonia. They report Mr.
Taggart improved and able *o
return to his home. . . Ralph
Green was admitted to St. An
thony’s hospital Thursday, March
7. . . A. H. Bentley of Cham
bers suffered a heart attack,
Saturday, March 9. .Mrs. Char
les Grimes entered St. Anthony's
hospital in O’Neill recently for
medical care . . . Mrs. C V. Rob
ertson, who had been a patient
a week in St. Anthony’s hos
pital, submitted to surgery Tues
day, March 6
LYNCH—Both Mr. and Mrs.
Floyd France were taken to the
Sacred Heart hospital Wednesday,
March 6. Mrs. France suffered
a severe cold and Mr. France
was afflicted with a lame back

day, March 9, after her husband,
who had been confined in the
hospital there the past week. . .
The Veldon Lee family has been
quite ill with the flu the past
week.

entered St. Anthony’s hospital on
Saturday morning, suffering with
influenza . . James Kelley, who
had been a patient at St. An
' thony’s hospital for a week, w?as
released Saturday.
ROCK FALLS— Linda Hynes
has been ill with a cold and sore
throat and missed some school
last week, however, she was bet
ter at this writing and able to be
back in school again.
REDBIRD—Debra Jean, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Merlyn An
derson, has been having a siege
of mumps this week.
CELIA—William Maloun was a
Saturday overnight patient in
Atkinson Memorial hospital.
Man, 72, Killed in
Two-Car Crash
CHAMBERS— A Chambers
man, Wayne B. Peterson. 31, fig
ured in a fatal auto accident a
Dout 4:30 p. m.. Saturday in which
Frank Seier, 72, of Petersburg was
killed.
Seier's machine collided with
Peterson’s at an intersection on
date highway 14 near Loretto. An
eight-year-old boy riding with
Seier was unhurt.
Peterson suffered facial cuts
and bruises, also from shock. Both
cars were badly damaged and the
Peterson machine is regarded as
a total lews.
Peterson was traveling north
on highway 14. Seier came onto
the highway from a country road.
CENTER IS OPENED
EWING—A large crowd was on
hand for the formal opening of
the youth center last Thursday
evening. Dancing was enjoyed.
Sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Don
Ruroede and Miss Alice Hamil
ton.
MOVE TO DAKOTA
EWING—Mr. and Mrs. Don
Lines moved during the weekend
onto a South Dakota ranch. Mrs.
Lines' father, at the ranch, is ill.
