MARCELLUS, Mayor Rockets to Open Against Stuart Manager Dick Tomlinson will unveil the 1955 edition of the O’ Neill Rockets’ baseball team against the Stuart Independents at 2:30 o’clock Sunday afternoon in Carney park here. In the only other opening game in the North Central Nebraska baseball league, Chambers will go to Ainsworth. Bassett has an open date. The Rockets have won two practice games, whitewashing the national guards, 20-0, in five inn ings and licking the American Legion juniors, 10-1. Sunday Night Rain Totals .48 of Inch Moisture General in This Region Thunder showers brought mois ture to the city of O’Neill late Sunday night, starting about 11:30 o’clock. The official amount re ceived was .48 of an inch. The storm, moving in from the west, was accompanied by considerable wind and lightning. Sidney Faulhaber of Venus re ported a half-inch rainfall in his locality; Tom and Larabee Kel ley, residing north of Page, reg istered about .33 of an inch. Nor man Saltz, residing one-half mile north and three miles east of Page, said his place received “not a drop.” Earnest Wright, who lives on the McKenzie place southwest of Redbird, was in O’ Neill Monday and estimated .50 of an inch fell there. Inman’s unofficial “take” on the Sunday night raty was .40. Earl House, who lives four miles east of Atkinson, estimated .75 of an inch precipitation was received at his place. John Fred erickson, who resides north of Bristow, estimated rainfall at .70 of an inch late Sunday. Bristow received about the same amount, he indicated. The Felix Hendricks place, east of O’Neill, received .80; Lindley Crumley, near Page, over a half inch. The Norman Saltzes also were outside the favored circle Tues day, May 17, when general showers visited most of the sandhills region. During the Tuesday, May 17, shower and storm, a cow belong ing to Frank Mlnarik was killed by lightning. Burns Phone— Another nice shower fell on the Rock Falls community Sunday evening. It was accompanied by considerable lightning and some wind in places. Lightning burned out the phone in the Dave Moler home and damaged the house slightly. Poppy Sale at Ewing Nets $31.44 EWING— Saturday was poppy day in Ewing. Girls who assisted in canvassing the residential and business sections of the village were Patricia Hahlbeck, Carolyn Tams, Patricia Wright, Beverly Rotherham, Gloria Schroeder, Janet Noffke, Mary Lois Noffke and Sharon Kropp. A sum of $31.44 was collected which will be used by the Amer ican Legion auxiliary rehabilita tion program. Mrs. M. B. Huffman, Mrs. Al len Pollock and Mrs. Josephine Elston had charge of the poppy window display which was at the Firestone store. It is the plan of the auxiliary to make poppy wreaths which will be for sale memorial day. Other Ewing News Glen Tuttle of Cherokee, la., arrived Friday night for a week end visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Tuttle. He was ac companied by his mother’s broth er and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Weis, and daughter, Mary Beth, also from Cherokee, also her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Weis of Meridan, la. Mrs. Matt McCabe re ceived a painful burned hand Sunday afternoon when a water heater became deficient. She was taken to O’Neill for dressings and treatment . . . Donene, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Summers, received burns on the chest and hands when she tipped a vapor izer over. She spent Monday in the hospital at O’Neill. . . Mrs. Harry Parks, who spent several weeks in Our Lady of Lourdes at Norfolk for a heart ailment, and was a guest of her nephew, George Brewster, and family at Norfolk for a couple of weeks, was brought to her home at Page Saturday. Her condition is satis factory. DELOIT — Alvie Parks, who lives at the Huffman ranch, has been hospitalized in the Tilden hospital for over a week. He is suffering from a back injury. . . Pete Thiele was taken to the O’ Neill hospital on Monday, May 16. He remained there for over a week. . . Mrs. William Gibbs of Norfolk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lambert Bartak, underwent an appendectomy on Wednesday, May 18, at a Norfolk hospital. Li tie David Gibbs is staying at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bartak. AMELIA— Mrs. B. W„ Waldo has been suffering with an infec tion of the eye. Her doctor plan ned to remove a cyst from her eyelid Monday morning if the infection abated. . . Mrs. Bertha Sammons was able to return home Saturday, May 14, after many weeks hospitalization fol lowing a fall in which she broke her hip. She gets around very well with the aid of a canc. EMMET — Raymond Richard went to Omaha for a checkup on Sunday and Tuesday, May 15 and 17. . . Mrs. Garett Janzing spent the weekend at Omaha. She vis ited Mr. Janzing, who remains “the same.” . . Mrs. Robert Cole spent a few days the first of this week in the hospital . . . G. Owen Cole suffered an ankle injury Thursday, requiring five stiches to close the wound. SPENCER—Mrs. Glenn Tom linson is seriously ill at the Sa cred Heart hospital at Lynch. She was admitted Monday, May 16. Mrs. Tomlinson had been home from the hospital about three weeks when she entered last week. ATKINSON — Mrs. Stanley Johnson entered Methodist hos pital in Sioux City Friday. . . H. O. HOME DAMAGED BUTTE—The farm home of Mr. and Mrs. William Dix, jr., was damaged by smoke and water in a blaze about 8 o’clock Tues day morning. The Butte fire de partment brought the blaze under control. The fire started in a utility room.
