Next 212 Meeting—
The 212 South Fork 4-H club
held its regular meeting at the
home of LeRoy Holcomb on Fri
day evening, August 13, with 19
members answering roll call.
The lessons concerned tractor,
let’s cook and room improvement
in which Mrs. Holcomb demon
strated how to arrange flowers
for different uses. It was decided
not to have a meeting next time,
but to have a party instead.
The committee appointed to
decide on where we are going for
cur party includes Jeanene Back
haus, Kenneth Backhaus, Gale
Holcomb and Anna Gartner. Mrs.

A dinner honering the birthday
anniversary of Mrs. William E.
Kelly of Inman was held at the
Town House Wednesday, August

bert Fox and Barbara of Emmet
drove to Davenport, la., Monday,
August 16. On Tuesday. August
17, when they returned, they were
accompanied by Mrs. Charles Fox
and Carol Ann. Carol Ann had
been under a doctor’s care there
the previous week. . . Mrs. Letta
M. Conrad returned Saturday
from an Omaha hospital where
she had been hospitalized nine
weeks. Her daughter, Mrs. John
Davidson, who had spent a week
near her, brought Mrs. Conrad
to O’Neill. . . Richard (“Dick”)
Clark submitted to an emergency
appendectomy Saturday night in
St. Anthony’s hospital. . . . Henry
Sanders, who is a patient in the
Veterans hospital in Grand Is
land, remains “about the same.”
. . . Mike Moore, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Robert E. Moore, returned
last Thursday from Children’s
hospital, Omaha, where he had
been receiving treatment His
condition is “good.”

fox have been having mumps
the past week. . . Mr. and Mrs.

Omaha last Thursday morning.
Mrs. O’Connor had a medicai
checkup. They returned home
that evening, leaving Marybelle
and Rose Mary in Omaha.
CELIA — Mr. and Mrs. Gene
Livingston went to Omaha Friday
where Mrs. Livingston consulted
a doctor. They returned home on
Saturday but returned to Omaha
Monday, August 23, where Mrs.
Livingston entered Clarkson hos
pital for observation.
AMELIA—Bob Adair received
a broken bone in his wrist when
he rode at the rodeo at the Cham
bers fair.
Loock Departs—
SPENCER — Pfc. Richard D.
Loock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Loock of Spencer, left Sunday
for Ft. Lewis, Wash., after a two
weeks’ visit with home folks. He
is senior switchboard operator
in the headquarters battery of the
44th division. His sister, Darlene,
accompanied him to Portland,
Ore., where she will visit a week
with relatives.
N. E. Medcalf has purchased
the Thaine Humphrey Body
Shop in Atkinson. The shop wiU
now be known as Pat’s Body
Shop. Mr. Medcalf took over
Monday.
The Saddle club will hold a
practice Friday evening at 8 o'
clock at the club grounds. All

Erownies Have
Fun Morning—
All the Brownie troops gather
ed last Thursday at Ford’s park
for a morning of fun.
Leaders who were present and
helped were Mrs. W. B. Gillespie,
Mrs. Reed Herley and Mrs. Rob
ert Miles.
Games were under the leader
ship of Mrs. Leo Gokie and Mrs.
Miles.
Mrs. Herley had charge of
handicraft. Each girl was able
to start and complete a leather
belt.
The children were taught two
new songs by Mrs. Carroll W.
Stewart. The life guards at the
pool supervised water games.
Luncheon, which each Brownie
helped prepare, was preceded by
a lesson in fire building.
Mrs. Colfack, Mrs. Elgin Ray,
Mrs. D. R. Douglass, Mrs. Dale
Ferry, Mrs. Joe Stutz and Mrs.
Stewart arranged for the picnic
lunch.

ed out football uniforms from the
new coach at St. Mary’s academy,
Eton Templemeyer. Spirit is run
ning high, according to Temple
meyer, who is conducting twice
daily practice sessions for the
six-man campaign, which opens
in a little over two weeks.
Practice this week has been de
voted to conditioning. He ex- !
pects to apply the pressure on !
heavier work this weekend when
the squad will have an oppor
tunity to try out the new equip
ment.
/Dressing room and equipment
room have been remodeled and
numerous training aids have been
installed for the caring for and
treatment of injuries.
A meeting of the St. Mary’s
Athletic association was con
ducted Monday evening at the
academy.

609 Cattle Receipts Today’s Estimate
• There will around 600 head of cattle today (Thursday)
in connection with our regular weekly sale. This will
include 50 head of 2-year-olds, weighing 800-1,000 pounds;
one fine lot of light yearlings; several good loads of steer and
heifer calves and yearlings. There will be at least 70 head
of feeding heifers. In addition there will be sizeable offerings
of butcher cows.
• Already the increased seasonal receipts are being felt
and quality is improving with each sale.
• The hog sale will start at 11 o'clock.
