Atkinson Blind
Man Enjoys Walks
ATKINSON— George White,
who has spent the past 12 years
of his life in total blindness, qui
etly marked his 75th birthday
anniversary Monday, Decem
ber 1.
He still resides at the home of
Mrs. Anna Weller in Atkinson
where he has been for the past
six years. He takes his morning
walk whenever weather permits
with the aid of a rope attached
to his outside door at one end
and a post in the yani at the
other.
“Life is still good,” he says.
When asked, “How are you do
ing, George?” he answered, “Oh,
about 60.”
When the friend said, “Better
put on the brakes,” he replied
-Not yet.”
This is typical of this courag
eous fellow who was at one time
vigorous and strong enough to
be in the dray business with a
team of horses.
His brother, Allan, comes to
see him often and helps to see
that life is as pleasant as possi
ble for George because he really
isn’t well any more.
The laughter of children is
still his greatest joy. They often
come to talk with him.
