Hayden, about 72, a former resident of ONeill, died at 5 p.m., Saturday, November 29, in Bay City, Ore. She had suffered a stroke and was in a coma for a month pre ceding her death. Funeral services were conduct ed Thursday, December 4. The late Mrs. Hayden, whose maiden name was Lydia Harding, was born east of Sioux City, a daughter of J. E. and Mary A. Harding. As a small child she came to ONeill with her parents and other members of the family. About the turn of the century she married Mir. Hayden. The Haydens resided in South Dakota several years and then moved to the West coast. They became the parents of five daughters and two sons. Mr. Hayden died about four years ago. Survivors besides her children, include: Brothers—Bert Harding of Los Angeles, Calif., and Charles Harding of O’Neill. Bertha McMillan Burial at Bassett BASSETT—Mrs. Bertha Mc Millan, 86, widow of the lat© Richard McMillan, died Sunday, November 30, at the home of her son, Harold, at Newport. Funeral services were con ducted Thursday, December 4, from the Methodist church at Newport with Rev. Homer B. Hix officiating. Burial was in Bassett Memorial park. Bertha Wohlfiel was born in Germany, August 23. 1866. She came io America with her parents when 12-years-old. She was united in marriage to Richard McMillan, June 18, 1887, at Madison. To this union 11 children were- bom — Lillian, Charles, Helen, Storrs, Hazel, Hattie, Cecil, Clinton, Herbert, Harold and Lucille. She was a member of the First St. Paul Lutheran church. Her husband preceded her in death in 1926 and she was also preceded by Lillian and Herbert. Survivors include: Sons—Storrs of O’Neill, Charles of Long Pine, Cecil of Emmet, Clinton of Saco, Mont., and Harold of Newport; daughters—Helen Wabs of Spen cer, Hazel Strong of Norfolk, Hat tie Cummings of San Francisco, Calif., and Lucille Classon cxf Lincoln; seventeen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. JONES, Mgr.O’Neill Atkinson Blind Man Enjoys Walks ATKINSON— George White, who has spent the past 12 years of his life in total blindness, qui etly marked his 75th birthday anniversary Monday, Decem ber 1. He still resides at the home of Mrs. Anna Weller in Atkinson where he has been for the past six years. He takes his morning walk whenever weather permits with the aid of a rope attached to his outside door at one end and a post in the yani at the other. “Life is still good,” he says. When asked, “How are you do ing, George?” he answered, “Oh, about 60.” When the friend said, “Better put on the brakes,” he replied -Not yet.” This is typical of this courag eous fellow who was at one time vigorous and strong enough to be in the dray business with a team of horses. His brother, Allan, comes to see him often and helps to see that life is as pleasant as possi ble for George because he really isn’t well any more. The laughter of children is still his greatest joy. They often come to talk with him. Lynch Homesteader Dies in Mississippi LYNCH — Funeral services were held Friday, December 5T at Loosedale, Miss., for John Spencer, about 85, who passed , away at the home of his daugh ter Tuesday, December 2. Mr. Spencer homesteaded on a farm 7 Vz miles northeast of Lynch in 1890 and moved from here to Mississippi 40 years ago.
