Plan to Carry On
EMMET — The Methodist
church congregation held a
meeting at the nome of Mr.
and Mrs. John Conard Wednes
day evening. May 24.
It was decided to continue
the Methodist church in Emmet.
The pastor for the past few
years, Rev. W. C Birmingham,
who also serves the Atkinson
church, has requested a trans

daughter of Mrs. Verna Kalkow
ski, of Lynch, and Norman

married Sunday, May 21, with
Rev. Richard Monroe officiat
ing. About 40 friends and rela
tives attended.
The bride was dressed in an
orchid taffeta street-length dress
with brown accessories. She
wore a pearl necklace and ear
Tings, gifts from the bridegroom.
She carried a yellow and white
rosebud bouquet.
Mrs. Lou Ann Thomas was
matron-of-honor and wore a
copper taffeta streetlength gown
with a shoulder corsage of yel
low and white rosebuds.
The bridegroom wore a gray
suit and the bestman, John Eth
erton, of O’Neill, wore a brown
suit. Both wore white carnation
boutonnieres.
A reception was held after the
ceremony and the luncheon was
served by the Theta Rho Girls’
club.
The couple plans to make
their home in the Dorsey com
munity.

In the opening round of the
1950 baseball season of the
North-Central day and night
league, August Troshynski’s
Atkinson “9” Sunday afternoon
rode to an easy 15-2 verdict
over Inman before a “pretty
fair” gate.
In other engagements O’Neill
at Chambers was postponed be
cause of wel grounds; and Page
had an open date.
The initial tilt gave the par
itisan fans at Atkinson strong
indication that Atkinson would
be a top -flight contender for
the league championship.
The Atkinson tribe demon
strated considerable power in
the hitting department.
Leading hitters for victorious
Atkinson were Big Bill Miller
and Frank Schaaf. Miller rap
ped out 3 hits in 5 trips to the
plate. They consisted of a home
run, a triple, a single. Schaaf
clouted 3 for 3 with a homer
and a pair of singles.

gen, of Inman, and Fred Apple
by took batting honors for the
losing club. Gorgen and Apple
by knocked out 2 hits in 4 trips
to the plate.

wrapped up an easy victory on
the Clearwater diamond Sun
day afternoon by defeating the
Orchard Legion, 8-2.
Clearwater took an early lead
when Orchard’s pitcher issued
4 walks in a row and then 2
Clearwater hits sent 5 runs
home.

South Fork Club
In Skating Parly—
The 212 South Fork 4-club
met at the school Friday, after
noon, May 26. The meeting was
called to ordeij by the president
Joellyn Backhus, The minutes
of the last meeting were read
by the secretary, Donald Strong,
and were approved.
Roll call was answered by
giving a good health habit.
Plans were made for a fishing
party soon.
We repeated the 4-H pledge
then we sang songs.
A stocker feeder and a sew
| ing class were held after the
meeting. We learned the differ
ent parts of a calf, judged our
hot pot holders and head scarfs,
then we played ball and had a
wiener roast. Seventeen mem
yers and 12 visitors wer present.
Next regular meeting will be
at the Leonard Peterson home
June 30. We had a roller skat
ing party at the Legion hall in
Chambers Friday night, May 19.

LIBERTY BELL COMING . . , Nebraska’s Independence sav
ings bond drive, which was launched Monday, May 15, is well
underway in Holt county, according to Lyle P. Dierks, Holt
drive chairman. Looking ahead to the appearance of the fac
simile Liberty Bell at O’Neill on Wednesday, June 21, Dierks
said that he expects this symbol of the treasury drive to be a
real incentive to bond buyers.

relatives were present. Games
provided entertainment and bin
go was played, the bride receiv
ing all the prizes. Following
this, was the opening of the gift
packages which were piled
high on a table decorated in
the bride’s chosen colors. Nor

freshments of angle food cake,
ice cream and coffee were ser
vd from a table carrying out
the color scheme and decora
tion in the chosen colors in
flowers and candles. The hos
