After a short Christmas pro gram presented by the mem bers, names were drawn and gifts were exchanged. The aid presented each pre-school child with a small gift. Mrs. Linford Sweet was a call er in Gregory, S. D, Wednes day, December 14. Ward Merrill, of Cedar Rap ids, la., spent Thursday and Friday at the Charles Dobias, jr., home. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Allyn were in O’Neill on business Fri day, December 16. Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Smith and family were Sunday after noon callers at the O. A. Ham nerberg home. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dobias and boys attended a pre-Christ mas family dinner at the D. F. Scott home in Atkinson. Others present wfere Mr. and Mrs. Gene Scott, Miss Dorothy Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Scott and daughter, of Butte, and Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Scott. Penny's Authorize Special Payment— The board of directors of the J. C. Penney company has authorized a special payment of an amount of an equal to two week’s pay for all full time associates who have been been employed for the full year of 1949 and on a propor tionate basis for extra and part - time associates and for those employed less than a year. All Penney associates through out the company share in this payment except who are mem bers of the management staff and whose earnings are de termined largely by the com pany’s long-standing profit sharing plan. G. E DeBacker, manager of the J. C. Penney company store here, said that more than 50, 000 Penny associates all over the United States will partici pate in this payment, including 11 of the O’Neill store. He futher emphasized that this was not a Christmas bonus in the usual sense and was non-re curring. The company some years ago substituted a thrift and profit sharing plan for the more us ual Christmas bonus and into this plan is annually paid a proportionate share of com pany earnings. The current extra payment, just announc ed. *is additional to these thrift and profit-sharing benefits. Late Mrs. Davis To Be Honored— ATKINSON — Mrs. William Dexter, sr., was honored guest at the Women’s Relief Corps Christmas party held at the home of Mrs. Fred Braun Fri day, December 16. Mrs. Dex ter will be 74 on DecefmJber 22. One must reach the age of 70 before she is entitled to this honor in the Atkinson corps. About 15 members were present. Christmas gifts were exchanged by all in attend ance and Mrs. Dexter receiv ed a special gift. The next meting will be Sat- i urday, January 14, at which 1 time the charter will be drop ped in memory of Mrs. Mary 1 Farley Davis, who passed a way Deember 9, and who was | treasurer of the corps here for many years. DEAN’S BARBER SHOP Dean Streeter, Owner - O’Neill — INMAN NEWS The Harmony club met Tues day afternoon, December 13, with Mrs. Lottie Thompson. A gift exchange was part of the afternoon’s entertainment. A lunch was served at the close of the afternoon. The LL club met Wednesday afternoon, December 14, with Mrs. George Colman, sr. Gifts were exchanged in the after noon, after which the hostess served a lunch. The WSCS entertained the ladies of the community who do not belong to the society but who had helped them during the year. The affair was in the form of a Christmas tea on Thursday afternoon, December 15, at the parlors. The pallors were dec orated for Christmas as was the serving table. A program was given after which a lunch was served. Mrs. Ralph Moore, pres ident of the society, and Elsie Krueger, vice-president, poured at the table. Sixty-four mem bers and guests were present. The new steel folding chairs, which the society recently pur chased, were used for the first time. The Rebekah lodge held its annual Christmas party Wed nesday evening, December 14. After lodge games were played and a gift exchange was enjoy ed. A lunch was served by a committee. Smith Home Scene of Church Party CELIA — Mr. and Mrs. Law rence Smith entertained mem bers of the Hillside church with a Christmas party on Friday evening, December 16, in their home.
