Penny's Authorize
Special Payment—
The board of directors of
the J. C. Penney company has
authorized a special payment
of an amount of an equal to
two week’s pay for all full
time associates who have been
been employed for the full
year of 1949 and on a propor
tionate basis for extra and
part - time associates and for
those employed less than a
year.
All Penney associates through
out the company share in this
payment except who are mem
bers of the management staff
and whose earnings are de
termined largely by the com
pany’s long-standing profit
sharing plan.
G. E DeBacker, manager of
the J. C. Penney company store
here, said that more than 50,
000 Penny associates all over
the United States will partici
pate in this payment, including
11 of the O’Neill store. He
futher emphasized that this was
not a Christmas bonus in the
usual sense and was non-re
curring.
The company some years ago
substituted a thrift and profit
sharing plan for the more us
ual Christmas bonus and into
this plan is annually paid a
proportionate share of com
pany earnings. The current
extra payment, just announc
ed. *is additional to these thrift
and profit-sharing benefits.
