Oregon Ladle* Honored at Luncheon— Mrs. Gene Sanders entertain ed Tuesday at luncheon in hon or of her aunt, Mrs. J. C. Ap plegate. of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. C. W. DeVall and son, Ron ald, also of Portland. Mrs. Applegate arrived Mon day and will remain for two weeks. Mrs. DeVall and son will depart today (Thursday) af ter having spent "three weeks at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. A. IShelkopf The latter was also present at the luncheon. Alpha Club Bazaar Held Tuesday— The annual bazaar of the Al pha club was held Tuesday at the home of, Mrs. Carl Widtfeldt. They made $16. Seven members and the following guests were present: Mrs. P. There were 3® guests present, including 14 grandchil dren and two great-grandchil dren. The centerpiece at the table, setting was a cake baked by a daughter, Mrs Mattie WeTler, of Atkinson. Mrs. Johnson, formerly Ser aldia Bixler, was born in Ohio on October 14, 1858. Her fami ly moved to LeMars, la., where tier lather ran a store, when she was a child. Mrs. Johnson taught school there. On August 21, 1888, she was married to Andrew Johnson. Of their 11 children all but three are living. They moved to Holt county in 1909 and settled on the same site where Mrs. John son resides today. Mr. Johnson died in Septem ber. 1938, two weeks after he and his wife had celebrated tHeir golden wedding anniver sary. Mrs. Johnson is active in Methodist church affairs at Em ! met. Among those attending me I dinner were: Her daughters — Mrs. Weller and daughter, of Atkinson; Mrs. Francis Searles and family. Her sons— Sewell and Lowell and their families: a granddaughter, Mrs. Lloyd Waldo, and family, of Amelia; Mrs. Anna Johnson, of Sinton, Tex.; Miss Gladys Ernest and Pe-cy Anderson. % Those unable to be present were: her daughters—Mrs. Pha nia Friedrich, of Omaha; Mrs. Agnes Osborn, of Yankton, S. D.. and Mrs. Cletta Lech, of At kinson; her son — Custer, of Lincoln. _ . Mrs. Johnson has 22 living grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Din* and Dane*— The annual district meeting, dinner and dance of Consumers i Public Power district employees j was held at the Golden hotel ; Saturday. The meeting started at 10 a. ' m. In the evening, approximately 60 members were present. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. K D. Fenderson, of Grand Island, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Walling, of Albion, all formerly of O’Neill. College Student Has Mother as Guest— Miss Mary Louise Birming ham, a student at Barat college in Chicago, 111., is entertaining her mother, Mrs. H. J. Birming ham. Mrs. Birmingham left FYiday for Chicago and will re main two weeks. C. H. Switzer Has Birthday Anniversary— The Ben Asher home in Page was the setting Sunday for the birthday aniversary celebration for C. H. Switzer. Little Ben Asher returned with his grand parents for two days. Mrs. Campbell Entertains Her Club— Martez club winners Tuesday evening were Mrs. C. E Stout, Mrs. C. F. McKenna and Mrs. Ira Moss, each at their respec tive tables. Mrs. Edward Camp bell was hostess. Visits 111 Father— Mrs. Ernest Brinkman is spending this week at Gregory, S. Funeral ser vices were held Sunday. Mr. Gallagher, Betty and Jean were also present at the rites. Mrs.'Bogietn is the former Mary Real, of O’Neill. METSCHKE — Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Metschke, of F.emont, a son, Donald Christy, born Fri day, October 10. in Emanuel hospital in Omaha. Mrs. Mets chke is the former Margaret Jean Yantzi, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Yantzi, of O’ Neill. Emma Lu Fisher Engagement Told Dr. and Mrs. F. J. Fisher an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Emmy Lu, to E. Wil liam Dahms, son of John Dahms, of Chicago, 111. Miss Fisher, who has just re turned from Guam after having completed 10 mOnths’ overseas duty with the American Red Cross, is a graduate of the Col lege of St. Teresa at Winona. Minn. Mr. Dahms was gradu ated from the University of Chi cago. He is, at present, field administrator of the Pacific in the employment # the United States government. No date has. befn set for the wedding. Infant Son of Ex-O'Neillite Buried Here Wednesday Glenn R. McKee, 6-months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Mc Kee, of Grand Island, was bur ied in Prospect Hill cemetery here Tuesday. The mother is the former Gloria Warner, of O’Neill, a niece of Mrs. A. E. Bowen. * SICK & INJURED « . O’NEILL — Lorenz F. Brede meier returned Tuesday from the U. S. Marine hospital in Chicago where he was a patient. . . . Ivan Pruss, who injured his hand in a saw, returned Wed nesday from St. Joseph’s hospi tal in Sioux City. . . . Ralph Coburn’s condition is “satisfac tory” in a • Norfolk hospital where he recently submitted to a stomach operation. He was taken there by ambulance. CHAMBERS—Mrs. Paul Roth returned Sunday from North Platte where she had been re ceiving medical care since Octo ber 6. . . \ Richard Harley re turned Saturday from Spring field, Ore., because of a hand in fection. He had been employed in Springfield. . . Mrs. Frank Spath and Mrs. George Fuller ton and Don and Dale drove to i Omaha Monday where the Ful lerton children received medical attention. . . Mis. INMAN—James Sobotka went to Norfolk Tuesday, accompa nied by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Moore and Mrs. Sobotka, to re ceive treatment for his hands, which were badly burned Octo ber 4 while attempting to save his son, Warren* James Sobotka, whose clothing was enveloped in flames. LYNCH— Mrs. John Wike is recovering from a major opera tion which she recently under went in an Omaha hospital. . . . Bryce Peterson was slightly in jured Friday night when he came in contact with a parked truck while riding his bicycle. PAGE — William Howell was taken to a Sioux City hospital Saturday night where he has submitted to an operation. REDBIRD—Peter Spencer is ill this week, being laid up with a sprained back. Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Johnson entertained as their weekend guests, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Johnson, of Akron, O. Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Butler, of Columbus, Ga., visited Wednes day at the home of Mrs. S. M. Ohmart and Mr. and Mrs. Arn old Redlinger. Attending the American Le gion convention were Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Walling and daugh ter, Barbara, of Albion. They spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Walling. Pace, of St. Joseph, Mo., arrived Wed nesday for an indefinite stay at the home of Mrs. Pace’s mother and sister, Mrs. Amanda Pace and Mrs. John L. Quigg. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Porter, of Atkinson, moved t o O’Neill Monday. Mr. and Mrs. William A. Strong and family went to Page Sunday to visit Mrs. Strong’s sister, Mrs. Herbert Kirschmere. Albert Bentley, of Lake George, N. Y., called Saturday on C. H. Switzer, whom he had not seen in 40 years. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Tomlin son left Sunday for a hunting trip in Wyoming.
