son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Bruce Rummel and family
for a week.
Mrs. Howard Manson of Elgin
and Mrs. S. P. Wanser of O’Neill
were dinner guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Vernon Beckwith Tuesday
evening. _
W. H. Jeffers, of Chambers,
was a pleasant caller at this office
Wednesday and advanced his
subscription to The Frontier. Mr.
Jeffers says that crops are simply
immense in the southern part of
the county.
Mrs. John Duffy and daughter,
Mary Lou, left Wednesday for
their home at Casper, Wyo., after
spending the past month with
Mrs. Duffy’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. L. A. Simonson.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McElvain
left Tuesday for Rochester, Minn.,
where Mr. McElvain will go
through the Mayo Clinic.
Ed Donahue of Butte spent
Tuesday with relatives and
friends here.
Mrs. Clecja Brady and Mrs.
Carrie Hunter went to Redbird
Monday to spend the week with
relatives and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. James Rooney
went to Lake Ericson Saturday,
to spend the week.
Mrs. Billy Ryan returned to
Ainsworth Sunday, after spend
ing several days at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. G. J. Ryan and
family.
Miss Doris Scofield spent the
week-end in Omaha with Miss
Doris Appleby.
Mrs. Francis Murphy spent
Tuesday evening at Atkinson
with relatives and friends.
Jerry Classen arrived Friday
from Chicago, to spend ten days
with relatives and friends at
Spencer and O’Neill, before leav
ing for his physical examination
for army service.
Mrs. Anna Boukle returned to
Omaha Sunday, after spending a
few days with her mother, Mrs.
B. Rohde and brother, Ambrose
and family.
Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Herre took
Mrs. Herre’s mother, Mrs. Dana
Hursh, to her home at Superior
on Wednesday, after a week’s
visit at their home.
Rev. V. C. Wright returned
Saturday from Birmingham, Ala.,
whehe he had been on a two
weeks’ vacation.
H. W. Tomlinson has been
helping shock grain this week at
the Rodney Tomlinson home near
Opportunity.
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Jones were
in Valentine Tuesday on business.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dodd ar
rived Friday from Los Angeles,
Cal., to spend a few days visiiting
Mrs. Dodd’s parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Await Spengler.
Miss Vivian Eidenmiller left
Friday for Denver, Col., where
she had been transferred by the
Northwestern Bell Telephone
company.
Miss Ann Clark of Omaha ar
rived Friday to make an extend
ed visit at the home of her sister,
Mrs. M. R. Sullivan and family.
Patti Keiser will arrive home
tonight from Rapid City, S. D.,
where she has been visiting at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. R.
Suncliff for several weeks.
Mrs. Loren Nelson returned
home from Cincinnati, where she
had been visiting relatives for
several weeks.
The Misses Ruth Ann and Rose
Mary Biglin entertained the TNT
Club at a 7 o’clock dinner at a
local cafe Friday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Miller spent
the week-end at Loup City visit
ing friends.

girls and boys at a dancing party
at the County Club Wednesday
evening, honoring his cousin,
Miss Wilma Buckman, of Gann
Valley, S. D.

noticed that every football game
has its stray dog that crosses the
field during a critical play, just
as every public gathering has its
crying baby or coughing adult.
President Roosevelt signed the
$42 billion Army Supply Bill for
fiscal year 1943. The War Depart
ment said men now in Class 1-B
because of minor physical defects
will be inducted into limited mil
itary service under a regular
quota system in order to release
fully qualified soldiers for duty
with task forces. Only those 1-B’s
“Who are able to bring to the
Army a useful vocation which
was followed in civil life” will
be called.
Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Miller re

days vacation trip spent in the
Black Hills of South Dakota.
