Over the County EMMET ITEMS Miss Ruby Weiseman and Luree Abart of O’Neill, and Clifford Par nell of Tacoma, Wash., were sup per guests at the Chas. Abart home Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Allen and fam ily and Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Allen were dinner guests at the home of Mrs. Alex Beebe in Atkinson Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Maines and family spent Sunday in Stuart vis iting at the home of Mrs. Maines parents. Mrs. Alex McConnell and daugh ter, Mrs. Fred Saunto visited Mrs. Abart Friday afternoon. Little. J?an LaClara Cole was very ill several days last week. Mrs. Katherine Rose, formerly Katherine Cadman left for home Saturday after spending several days here. The Fairview Community Club met Friday night with a very large crowd in attendance. Mrs. Bob Fox, Mrs. Walter Pease and Mr. D. Schaffer were on the entertain ment committee and they provided an excellent program. The meet ings for this season have been dropped but they will be continued again in October. After the meet ing adjourned the crowd enjoyed a | weiner roast. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Hershiser I and family were dinner guests at , the Henry Wayrnan home Sunday.1 Those who went from Emmet to j hear the Bishop in O’Neill Sunday | were Mrs. Clara Cole, Mrs. D. H. : Allen, Mrs. Homer Lowery and j Clara and Mrs. Guy Cole. The teacher, Miss June Fox and pupils in School District No. 152 will close their school year with a community picnic Saturday. Harry Warner, Guy Cole and Bobby John Conard and Spike Lawrence fished at Wright’s lake Sunday afternoon. Helen and Ralph Rector spent the week end at the Dewey Schaf- ' fer home. Mrs. Ted Herring and sons, John and Richard, of Omaha, arrived Saturday morning to spend several weeks visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Kee. Pauline Dusatko and Henry Benze were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Storts last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Beckwith and family drove to Phoenix Sunday to visit at the Bill Colman home. Hail and wind destroyed prop erty north of Emmett Monday evening. The Claussen home re ported the most damage. LaVern Stahley suffered a se vere attack of the mumps last week. He was kept home from school for about a week. INMAN NEWS Born to Mr. and Mrs. Dave Morsbach Saturday, May 11, a baby girl weighing 6 pounds, who has been named Lois LaVada. Moth er and daughter are getting along nicely. Miss Lois Moor, who teaches at North Bend, Nebr., spent the week end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Moor. Rev. E. B. Maxcy of the M. E. Church and his congregation went to O'Neill Sunday afternoon to hear the Brstrop, Rev. Martin, who spoke at the O’Neill M. E. church. Mr. and Mrs. Wm! Vrooman and children of Venus were here Sun day visiting at the J. B. Fraka home. Bob Brittell of O’Neill visited here Thursday with his brother, Frank Brittell. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Conger and daughters of Sioux City, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Conger and children of Elgin, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Hancock of O’Neill and Mr. and Mrs. Beryl Conger and son of At kinson were all geusts of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Conger Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Conard and Mr. and Mrs. Levi Morsbaeh of Neligh visited relatives here Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Thompson went to Norfolk Saturday to spend the day with their son Bill and wife. Mrs. Enuna. Rishling and daugh ter, Miss Vera of Neligh, were in Inman Saturday looking after business. Mts. Zitella Kestenholtz and son Harry a»d family drove to Cham bers Sunday to visit at the Evan Stover home. The Harmony Club gave a fare well party for Mrs. Chas. Stark at her home Saturday evening. Each member presented her with a tea towel. The Starks will leave soon for Idaho to make their home. Mr. and Mrs. Roy DeLong and two children and Mr. and Mrs Merle DeLong and daughter drove to Norfolk Saturday on business. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Butler and daughter Anne, of Neligh, were here Sunday visiting relatives. The Y. M. Club met with Mrs. Arthur Clark on Tuesday of this week for an all day meeting. The Coffee Club met with Mrs. VV. C. Kelly on Tuesday of this week. A covered dish dinner was served at noon. Baccalaureate services were held in the High School Auditorium Sunday evening, with Rev. E. B. Maxcy of the M. E. church bring ing the message. Processional and recessional was played by Ar dith Smith. Vocal music was fur nished by a high school sextet and girls glee club. Instrumental mu sic was played by a trio consisting of R. Wilde Stickney, Dorothy So botka and Ruth Watson. Members of the graduating class are Rhoda Krutz, Helen Wegman, Hazel Fra ka, Doris Gannon, Arlin Castor, Robert Mossman, Robert Hutton and Micky Gallagher. Commence ment will be on Thursday evening of this week. MEEK AND VICINITY Mr. and Mrs. Walter Devall spent Sunday at the Preston Jones home. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hull, of Sioux Falls, S. Soft Ball Players Are Again (retting Busy St. Mary’s Academy soft ball team defeated the team from O’Neill High last Sunday after noon, by a score of 7-4. St. Mary’s took an early lead, and Brown’s home run was the only threat made by O’Neill in the early innings. Hammond, pitching for St. Mary’s, received effective support and the seventh was his only bad inning, O'Neill scoring two runs and leav ing two on base. Ryan, pitching for O’Neill, had a large number of strike outs, but received poor support, especially in the early innings, which put him behind, and which O’Neill was never able to overcome. Hickey’s home run was the only hit yielded in the late innings. St. Mary’s team will play St. Joseph’s of Atkinson here on Wed nesday afternoon, and have an other game scheduled for O’Neill, the date of which will be announced later. In other words, these land for planting and cultivate the services amount to about 38 per cent of the amount expended by the Federal Government. Projects are being conducted in six of the plains states, including Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, and up to this time, over 130 million trees have been planted on 17,174 farms. About thirty-five hundred miles of trees will be planted this year on about six thousand farms. Each year, about two million dol lars are taken out of the relief funds for this tree planting pro ject, and the House Members are asking that this amount of money he taken out of relief funds for the next fiscal year for the tree planting progjram in these six states. Farmers who have been waiting for their 1939 soil conservation payments will be interested to know that in the conference rpport on the last deficiency bill, there was an item for $60,000,000. This money was taken out of the regu lar agricultural appropriation bill 1 and the delayed soil conservation payments should be reaching the hands of the farmers in a very short time.
