D„ 1896: A Joint resolution proposing to smend sections two (2), four (4), and five (6.) of article six (6) of the Consti tution of th* State of Nebraska, relat ing to number of judges of the supreme court and their term of offlce. Be It resolved and enacted *lijr the Leg islature of the State of Nebraeka: ..Section 1. That section two (S) of ar ticle six (6) of the Constitution of the State of Nebraska bo amended so as to read as follows: Beotlon t The supreme court Shall- until otherwise provided by law, consist of live (5) Judges, a majority of whom shall be necessary to form a quorum or to pro nounce a decision. It shall have original Jurisdiction In cases relating to revenue, civil casea In which the state shall be a party, mandamus, quo warranto, habeas corpus, and such appellate Jurisdiction, as may bo provided by law. ! .Section t. That section four (4) of article ■lx («) of the Contaitutton of the State of Nebraska, be amended so as to read aa follows: Section t The Judges of the supremo court shall be elected by the electors of the stats at large, and their term of offlce, except aa hereinafter provided, shall be for a period of not less than live (5) years as the legislature may prescribe. Section S. That aectlon five (5) of artlcla ■lx <() of the Constitution of the State of Nebraska, be amended to read aa follows: Section 8. At the first general election to bo held In the year UW, there shall be elect ed two (2) Judges of the supreme court one of whom shall be elected for a term of two (2) years, one for the term of four (4) years, and at each general election there after, there shall be elected one Judge of the supremo court for the term of five (5) years, unless otherwise provided by law; Provided, That the Judges of the su preme court whose terms have not expired at the time of holding the general elec tion of MW, shall continue to hold theta office for the remainder of the term M which they were respectively commit*: atoned. The officers of the executive department of the state government shall receive for their services a compensation to be established by law, which shall be neither Increased nor diminished during the term fur which they shall have been commissioned and they shall not receive to their owu use any fees, costs, Interests, Upon public moneys In their hands or un ' perquisites of office or other compensation and all fees that may hereafter be payable by law for services performed by an officer provided for In this article shall be paid In advance Into .the state treasury. Such districts shall be formed of compact territory, and bounded by county lines; and such Increase, or any change In the boundaries of a district, shall not vacate the sfflee of any Judge.
