WILL JtKl'O.M.MEXI) THAT CITY TAKE OVER CEMETERY Despite tho disagrooablo wfoathcr, a number of men and women, who aro members of tho cemetery association, gathered at the court houso Friday evening to hear roports of tho com mittees appointed a: a prior meeting and to make arrangements to put the Aorta Platte Cemetery In hotter shape. Ono ot tho committees appointed reported that at tho session of tho legislature Just adjourned a law was passed that cities of this class might own, control and caro for such com etories, and that tho control shoul bo placed in a board of six members Wlion Noith Platto became a city of tho lirst class it happened that It got in a group ot citlos wlioro no law gave this authority with roferenco to tho management of cemeteries. This wns evidently an oversight in legislation, as all villages and both smaller and larger cities have this authority to control and manago cemeteries to pro vide ror tno improvement and beau tifying bf such cemetories. At this meeting tho cemetery asso elation unanimously decided that tho oost plan to adopt would bo to deed tho North Platto Cemetery to the" city ana to turn over Uio money on hand amounting to about $2,000 to tho city, and to givo tho city control of tho cemotery under tho law. Tho cemtery Doara must servo wntliout pay and tho association investigated tho situation nnd selected throe men and three women to recommend to tho council for appointment upon this board. Tho city is given authority to make such a levy as may bo necessary to propor ly improvo tho cometory and It is probable that a small levy will havo to Uo mado for a year or two to get the cemetery in proper shape, and thereafter tho coinotery will prob ably bo on a self sustaining basis. Ono or tlio ilrat needs is city water. Tho mooting adjourned to moot with tho city council this ovonlng to ore- sent tho plan to tho city council fori Its adoption and for tho appointment of tho cemetery board. All momborH of the comteroy association aro ro il uoa tod to bo present at this mooting of the caune1l,whlcli will bo hold atthe city library. It Is bolloved that thoro will be no opposition to the plan of placing tho cometory undor control of tno city. In fact, it is stated on stood authority that it is tho worst appear ing comotory in tho utato of Nebraska adjoining any city of tho sizo of North Pmtto or larger. : :o: : Miss Elaine Bundy closed hor torm of school northwost ot town last week and began mork in tho Brooks studio yostonlay morning..
