The fire companies were called out Tuesday evening by an alarm from the Vroman home in the 3rd ward but the fire was under control before their ar rival. ' Miss Florence Stack, of the Clinton Jewelry store, will take a month's vaca tion beginning Monday, bho expects to visit friends in Columbns and other points. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Mills left Wed nesday nfternoon for Washington, D. C, where the former will represent the B. of L. F. and E. at their conven tion. Mrs. Nellie Brownell was thrown from a horso tfye first of this week while returning from her duties as rural school teachei. She sustained a fractured ankle and a number ot bruises. Mrs. W. V. Miss Mayme Pizer is a member of the graduating :lass. James Frazixr, Sr., an aged gentle man of the first ward sustained a broken arm in a fall Tuesday evening. In attempting to light a lamp he lost his balance and fell doubling the arm under him. At the regular meeting of the B. P. 0. E. the first of this week three new members, Messrs. Thornburg, Peck and Benttio were taken in. The business Bession was followed by refreshments in tho dining room. Gordon Love won the motorcycle which was offered by the Pat theatre management 'to the one selling the greatest number of theatre tickets. Gorden sold nearly four thousand tickets, or about a thousand more than his nearest competitor. Now and unique games, stunts, etc, were furnished for the nmusement of the guests and all pres ent enjoyed the evening. Nice refresh ments were served. Miss Lillian Hendy entertained a number of Indies Wednesday asternoon at a farewell party for Mesdames Finn, Clinton and Stuart who will leave shortly for an extended stay in Califor nia. Refreshments appropriate to the season were served. A surprise farpwell party was held for Mises Then Hansen and Marie Bowen Tuesday evening. A pleasant evening wes spent in games, music nnd social conversation and nicely pre pared frcshments were served at mid night. The party was held at the Har mon home. The Elk dancing party on Wednesday evening was one of tho most enjoyablo of tho series. The attendance was large, the music good and tho people congenial. Refreshments were served between dances and tables were ar ranged for card games in the reception hall. Mesdames Geo. LeDioyt and Ray Snyder entertained six of the local school teachers at a six o'clock dinner Tuesday evening. The tables were tastefully decorated with flowers. Covers were laid for the Misses Ella Blake, Nell Hartman, Eileon Flynn, Susie Campbell and Emma Smith. The Girls' Friendly Society wns en tertained Tuesday evening at the home of Miss Winnie Bridges who was as sisted by Miss Maude Owens. An election of officers wns held. Miss Elaine Bundy was elected president and Miss Mary Craigie secretary and treasurer. After which games wore played and n dainty lunch served. Mrs. E. A. Garlischs entertained thirty-six ladies at a card party Tues day afternoon. .Tables were arrangod fqr five hundred and the rooms were prettily decorated with cut flowers. A two course lunch was served. Assisting in serving were tho Misses Alfa Mc Kinleyof York, Den Hardin of Utica, and Miss Virginia Bullard and Mrs. Perry Carson of this city. Out-of-town guosts were Mesdames Hart of Detriot and Fred Warren of Tampa, Fla. The following nftornoon Mrs. Gar liseh entertained a coterie of ladies at a musical. Among the enjoyoble numbers on the program were n vocal solo and a roading by Miss Dea Hardin of Utica, violin solos by Prof. E. A. Garlisch, song by Miss Nellie Birkonshnw.
