J, W. Payne, who still owns 630
acres of valley land nenr Bignell, is
making arrangements to have a now
i evidence erected thereon. Last fall he
built a new barn, and this spring has
had 160 acres broken ont which no will
sow to flax and later to alfalfa.
A hill climbing automobilo contest
will bo held at tho I. N. Dempcy ranch
in Fox Creek precinct next Sunday, in
which several North Platto cars will
participate. This hill has a rise of
2G0 feet In an actual length of half a
mile.
Supt. Tout and tho teachers of the
City Schools are preparing an Industrial
exhibit which will be open some time
next week. At this exhibit will bo
shown all kinds of articles made by tho
pupils of tho achoolB. Paper work,
raffia, cutting, sewing, cooking, manual
work, and work done in tho nomo by
tho boys and gills. Some of tho con
teats held in tho last few weeks havo
been preparatory to this exhibit. Full

Analysis of Water.
Mayor Patterson has received from
tho Union Pacific a vertical drawing of
tho new well recently put down at this
place by tho Union Pacific, together
witn a statement of the conditions
found and a.i analysis of tho water.
This analysis is a most important one
to tho people of North Platte, for it
not only includes tho water from the
new well but from other wells. Tho
total solids in tho water from tho now
wells at a doDth of 215 feet is 13.27.
from tho old U. P. wells tho percentage
is 27.40, from tho Pcniston well 196
feet deep the percentage is 13.42,
whilo tho total solids from the present
wells of tho wnter company is 86.86, or
more man aouoio tno percentogo in tho
new Union Pacific well.
water was pumped irom the new
well at tho rate of twenty gallons per
minute, ana in tour hours pumping the
water was lowered ten feet in tho
casing.
This report and analysis is of much
benefit to tho city in view of tho pro
posed now water plant.
E. R. Goodman spent the greater part
of last week in tho country south of
iirady hustling fire insurance on farm
property. Practically all farmers and
ranenmen in Lincoln county carry in
suranco on their buildings and stock
thus showing good judement. In
speaking of crop appearances in that
section, Mr. Goodman said small grain
looked fair, a good part of tho winter
whbui nuving oeen more or jess dam
aged by tho severe winter weather.
The first cutting of alfalfa will be
light on account of tho cold weather of
the past month.

Dispatcher Hopkins, who recently re
signed, will leave tho latter part of
this week for Alberta, Northwest

Iowa, has been retained for the science

Tho Lincoln school building in the
Third ward was formally dedicated yes
terday attcrnoon ana evening, in tho
afternoon the children, under tho direc
tion of tho six teachers, rendered an
interesting program of songs and reci
tations bofore a large audience of pa
trons. In the evening an audienco that
filled tho auditorium probably three
hundred-asscmbled and listened to ad
dresses by E. T. Tramp, who presided
as cnatrman, miss smun, principal or
tho school, Victor VonGootz, W. C.
Elder, F E. Bullard and Supt. Tout
These addresses contained many good
points, especially whero it was urged
bv sovcral of the speakers that a more
hearty co-operation of teacher and pa
tron be nau, anu tnat patrons more
irequcnt'y visit the school and watch
the daily work of tho nunils. Tho ad
dresses were interspersed with selec
tions bv tho Eiehth grade chorus, a
mandolin selection by Louise Welborn
and a vocal duet by June Burgner and
Liouiso weiDorn.

There aro 275 pupils attending the
Lincoln school, which is evidenco that
the erection of the new building was a
real necessity.
Graduation.
A departure is to be made this vear
in tho conduct of tho High School
graduating exorcises from the custom
of the past few years. Instead of a
speaker irom out ot town delivering
tho address to tho graduates the plan
of tho exercises is a return to the tvne
of exercises which formerly held away.
Tho music will be worthy ot the occa
sion. Tho Graduation chorus will ren
der tnrco numbers. This chorus was
organized for tho express purpose of
providing music tor this occasion and
has been at work for bomo weeks
Thero will bo six short addresses on the
program. Four of these ore by mem
bers of the class and are selected as
follows. Ono member of the class se
lected by tho class, one member
se
lected by tho ,High School faculty, the
member or the class wno has the high
est standing (valedictorian) and the
president of the class. Then one
speaker was selected by the alumni of
the High bchool and one member ot
the board will present the diplomas.
This exercise will bo held in the Keith
Theatre and an admission oftwenty-five
cents will bo charged.
CLASS SERMON,
Rev. Williams of this city was chosen
by the class of '10 of the North Platte
High School to deliver the sermon to
tho graduates and he has kindly con
sented to do so. This sermon will be
given at tho moming exercises of the
Presbyterian church next Sunday, May
22nd.
