Capt, Andrews and daughter of Steele City, father and sister of Mrs. C. F. Scliarmann arc the guests of the latter, having arrived Saturday night. Capt. Andrews makes a specialty of feeding cattle and larming and has one of the best arranged feeding plants in eastern Nebraska, He will remain in town only a few days, but Miss Andrews mav extend her visit for several weeks. He also recommended deep plowing, thus covering the eggs so deeply that the young when hatched could not get out. The average life of a grasshopper is forty-five days, and each insect will devour vegetation equal to its weight. From this it can be seen that the grasshopper is very destructive to vegetation, At the close of the address many questions were asked the Professor bv those present, and much infor mation was gained therefrom The ravages of the grasshoppers resulted in a loss of thousands of dollars to the farmers of Lincoln county last year, and the same will probably be true this year. As there is no telling how many years the insects may remain, it is evident that concerted action looking to their destruction must be taken by the farmers.
