How Men Die.
If we know all the methods
of approach
adopted by an enemy we are. the better enabled
to ward oft the danger and postpone the moment
when surrender becomes inevitable. In many
instances the inherent, strength of the body suf
fices to enable it to oppose the tendency toward
death. Many, however, have lost these forces to
such an extent that there is little or no help.
In other cases a little help to the weakened lungs
will make all the difference between sudden
death and many years of useful life. Upon the
first symptoms of a cough, cold or any trouble
of the throat or lungs, give that old and well,
known remedy Boschee's German Syrup, a care
ful trial. It will prove what thousands say of it
to be. the "benefactor of any home."

Sir John Hershel's opinion that
the full moon has a tendency to
clear the sky of clouds is 'supported
by recent observations. In refer
ence to the- common belief that a
ring artfujcVthe moon is irdicative
of the approach of a storm, it is
stated that, out of sixty-one lunar
halos observed near London, thirty
four were followed bv rain within
twenty-four hours, and nineteen
within four days. Meteorologists
generally agree that the moon
exerts some influence on the
weather, but as to the extent of
that influence they differ greatly.

The figures which the prohibi

election is as uncertain as it was 111
1884. Much depends upon the ac
tion of the national prohibition con
vention which meets at Indianapolis
on May 30. There promises to be
a lively struggle for the presidential
nomination in that party. St. John
in spite of his popularity appears to
have droppectijj of the race. Clin
ton B. Fisk, ojT New Jersey, and
Green Clay iSmith, of- Kentucky,
however are rival candidates and
are both eager to fight for the
honor. But the question is can
either of these men, if nominated,
hold the party intac' ? A strong
republican nominee would certainly
draw hundreds of old time republi
cans from the prohibition ranks.
Threatened also with internal dis
sentiohs. it is doubtful whether the
third party can exert as much po
litical power as it did four years
ago. Bee.

the judges, and Mr. Howard Miles,
of Paxton, one of the clerks to fill
the vacancy of Mr. Thomas Fen-

thing passed off very quietly and
orderly in the immediate vicinity of
the polls and no disturbance what
ever occurred during the day to in
any way interrupt or interfere with
the voting. During the day crowds
would gather on the streets and
discuss the question at issue, but all
negative arsruments had been so
thoroughly and fairly discussed
through the columns of The Pilot
and by those favoring the 'question
that during the whole day the op
position did not succeed in gaining
a single recruit, and when the polls
were closed at six o'clock and the
votes counted, the result was found
to be ninety-six votes for the propo

but none could be found who was
willing to admit that he cast one of
the eleven. Paxton Pilot.
