Daylight showed that Imminent danger or this city's destruction has passed, but it brought also confirmation of losses. At least two died In tli city lire, John J. Boyd, a pioneer of the Conor D'Alenes, and formerly agent for tiie Oregon Railroad and Navigation com pan.v, and nn unidentified man or wo man, who was Incinerated In the Mich igan hotel. Only the skull of the lat ter was found In the ruins. Of the flreflghtlng forces, nn accur ate toll of the dead and wounded Is quite unavailable, but the known dead number twenty-four, the total Injured twenty-five, In addition to ten blind ed by smoke. The steady work of tho city fire de partment, members of the Twenty fifth, infantry, colored volunteers, and the forestry forces alone saved Wal lao" from total destruction. The con flagration in the east end wa3 stayed and back-firing 011 adjoining hills to the west and south prevented new diet In those directions. It Is estimated that the loss In the city is about $1,000,000. The entire eastern section from Seventh stre?t to Canton street Is destroyed with three terraces of residences on the hillside. The forpst supervisor reports that, the entire country between Wallace and the St. John river Is swept prac tically clean and that the loss of tim ber Is? stupendous. Fires between Burke and Mullen threaten both towns and mnny women nnd children nro be Ins sent away. With daylight a relief expedition was Rnt to Placer and Big creeks, where the firefighters' camps are located. These men have been scattered over the country, driven hither and thither by the flames. At Wnr Eagle tunnel, three miles from Wallace, six dead were found and two were badly burned. At Big creek twelve dead were re covered, two Injured and three unfor tunates who were completely blinded One lighter was found dead near Mul len and sixteen who were more or less seriously burned. At Pine creek three nro dead, five blinded nnd Ave other wise injured. TIip most Herious incident was rn ported from the St Coe country, Mon tana, where ISO men engaged In the forest rv service are missing, and it Is feared they have been burned to death. Death List Increasing. Spokane, Wash., Aug. 23. Thirty persons are known to be dead as a re sult or the forest fires within a radius of 130 miles of Wallace. The death II" t of the entiro fire-swept district or noi thorn Idaho Is certain to reach 100 and probably moro. It Is Impossible at the present time to make an accu rate check on the missing. Moulssant's Machine Again Damaged. London, Aug. 23. John B. Moissant, the American aviator, was again baf fled in his attempt to complete the Paris-London flight with n passenger, which started so auspiciously last Tuesday. He nscended twice In his endeavor to covor the comparatively short distance separating him from London, but he could make no bead way, and In the second forced descent damaged his machine so seriously that he will be unable to resume the flight for twenty-four hours. Wants Girl's Body Exhumed. Abilene, Kan., Aug, 23 Charles Beniisnus, father of Miss Bertha Benlg tup. believed to have beon slain, re quested that tho body of his daughter be exhumed and an autopsy be held.
