Sioux City Journal, 1st: A boat
club with a membership drawn , from
the clubs now maintaining houses on
the Big Sioux river is one of the possi
bilities for Crystal lake next year.
The site spoken of in conection with
suoh a club is Island beach. The agi
tation for a house started with mem
bers of the old clubs and has been
gaining many backers. Tbe fact tl at
crowds of the former river adherents
have been making two and three trip
weekly to the lake and found none of
the convenionoea afforded at the club
houses on the Big Sioux river gave rise
to the talk. Boosters for the club
house hope to have the matter of or
ganization well nnder way in the fall
so that work can be stared on the lake
front next spring. The attractiveness
of the lake, coupled with better rail
accomodations, has cut down the at
tendance at Riverside in a marked de
gree. Bathing parties have fouud the
bathing beach worth while, and the
fact that the beach tuns far out before
any stepoff is reached removes the dan
ger that mams uatuiug in tne uig
Sioux river. The movement to buy up
frontage property on Island beach hai
been so strong that on Saturday Frank
S Wagner purchased the last lot in the
platted portion ef the lake front. A
site for the talked of clubhouse could
be secured on the frontage not platted.
The Sunday crowds at the lake have
been large, and even on the week days
the beach draws good attendance.
The boosters for the club offer as roa
son why such a clubhouse would draw
well the mattor of delusiveness which
now is secured at Riverside through
the clubhouses. Travel to Crystal
lake yesterday was the heaviest in the
history of the 8ioux City Service com
pany. It is estimated that 2000 per
son b wure at the lake. Many did n it
seoure transportation by the olectrio
lines, as there were carriages and an
tomobiles going there iu a steady
stream. Throughout the afternoou
the cars run by the service company
were taxed to the limit. The lines on
the Riverside park run suffered a de
pletion of travel during the afternoon,
but made np the balance last night

Sioux City.

I
IT WORKED.
From tbe North Nebraska Eagle,
July 23, 1909:
"AlthotiKh the Knglo will prolally receive
no mure fuvors this year from tho Dakotu
Oounty Pioneer ond Old Settlers' imsoein'
tlon than has previously been linnueu it.
(which hns been nothlnit), we will, never
theless, continue to be the blirgcst booster
for a successful picnic the association has.
One or two peanut-headed 'Individuals con
nected with tho Old (Settlors' association
are seeing to It that the Eagle does not re
ceive any consideration at the'.hauds of the
society, presumably nil because at differ
ent times the Kagle has suggested that
it thought it might bo well for the society
after each picnic, to make a public flnauclal
statement. Kveryone that can be is
touched for their yeurly dues oil Old Set
tlers' day and many other means are resort
ed to to secure funds, which Is right nnd
proper. Hut the picnic Is a county affair
aud the people of the county who support
It aro entitled to know from what source
money Is received and to whom ami for
what It Is paid out. Tho Kagle should think
the officers themselves would want to show
the society's members that they were con
ducting their business squarely and honor
ably. If there isn't a nigger In tho wood
pile thwre is an awful strong cooii smell Iu
this matter."
Last year tbe privilege of priuting
tbe official program waa let to Tbe
Herald on payment of $15, it being tbe
bigbeat, and in fact the only sealed
bid banded in as requested. This
year the same privilege was given to
the Eagle for $10, without even ask
for bids on that particular privilege.
Do you see tbe point?

Arc Doctors Any Good?
Foolish question! Yet some people act as if a medicine
could take the place of a doctor! The best medicine In
the world cannot do this. Have a family doctor, consult
him frequently, trust him fully. If we did not believe
doctors endorsed Ayer's Cherry Pectoral for coughs and
colds, we would not offer it to you. Ask your doctor.
No alcohol in this cough medicine. . C.Auer Co. . Lowell, AW
If we did not believe doctors endorsed Ayer's Fills for constipation, biliousness, sick
headache, we would not offer them to you. Ask your own doctor about this.
