Europe Can Buy.
Europe has found th means' to buy
and pay for wheat and corn greater in
amount than 'was ever bought by Europe
before. The gold that has come and is
coming to the United State represents
payments for food and cotton. Europe haa
been able to buy cotton in enormous
amounts and pay for it. The German
manufacturers of cotton cloths wcr
shrewd when Great Britain seemed to b
stupid, for Germany bought very heavily
of American cotton when the market prlc
for it was low, whereas the English man
ufacturers refrained. Germany has holped
our export trade, as American agriculture
on the whole has helped it .to such an
extent that it almost balances the falling
off in our exports of msnufactured ar
ticles. For tnstance. Germsny in 1921
took 1.275.000 bales of cotton, and that
was nearly 800,000 bales mor than sh
took in the previous year. Wheras. on the
other hand. Secretary Hoover's statistics
show that Oreat Britain took 10,090 bales
less than Germany did in 1921 and 700.000

Barn Destroyed by Fire
Lemmon, S. D., Feb. 7. (Special.J
Fire of undetermined origin di
stroyed a large barn on the Em I
Salszieder place near Lemmon, ths
entire contents being lost. Loss is
estimated at several thousand dol
lars. Besides the destroying of much
hay and feed, eight head of cattle,
three horses, 12 sheep and 20 chickens
were killed.
