Bearish sen timent predominated In the grain markets, despite the revival- in ex port demand for cash wheat and advanced premiums for choice mill ing grain. The lack of outside speculation counted heavily against a maintenance of values and while trure was a shrp rally at one time, the finish was at net losses of 3-4 1 3-4c on wheat, with September leading. September and December corn again sold at a new low on the crop and closed l-83-8c lower, while oats were off a like amount and rye 11 l-4c. Favorable weather in the north west, where threshing operations have been resumed, a feeling that foreign financial conditions do not justify bullish activity at the pres ent time and early reports of a slow export demand were responsible for a break of 22 l-2c in wheat futures early, with increased commission house and local pressure, and while the market was regarded .as over sold in some quarters, it was not until reports that a good export business was under way and the seaboard had bought fair quantities of December'that the market showed a disposition to rally. At one time the deferred deliveries completely recovered the early decline, but as soon as the short covering ceased the market turned easy again and reacted. Sentiment Bearish. Pit Notes. , ITnless there is a marked Increase In outside buying, wheat traders generally innic tnr nrta to work Irregularly lower, with numerous rallies at times due to evening up movement. So far as the stock market of today waa con cerned, there was little of interest, the play of prices representing little more than the operations of profes sionals. Even the bond market was more quiet than that of recent days. The chief center cf interest lay rather, in the foreign exchange and the commodity markets. In the case of the former, German marks were once more under pressure and de clined to a new low for the year at 0.79.75 of a cent. On the other hand, the far eastern exchanges moved upward to quota tions close to the high points for -the year and silver advanced to new higirJrvels, both in the London and New York markets. The market dis played a nervousness in keeping with this. During the early trading there was lack of enthusiasm, :t spirit of doubt apparent ly governing operations. Later on, how. ever, with foreign demands developing In considerable volume, cotton gave another of those hysterical demonstrations which have been so frequent In recent days. Price mounted -steadily and closed far above prices of the preceding day. In the stock market, trading drifted Into a dull period The general tone waa to ward heaviness and In the, more prominent of the speculative Issues, recessions were recorded. " Chicago Live Stock. Can any cause be greater than the furtherance of their health?. Is there a person in our city whose heart does not throb in sympathy with these wee tots who would perish in the summer's heat 'save for the kindly ministrations of the Visiting Nurses Association? . The Omaha Bee's Milk and Ice Fund, so generously supported by the people of Omaha and surrounding territory, has done much for the welfare of the little folks. Without the twelve hundred dollars raised through The Omaha Bee and administered by the V. N. A., hundreds of babies whose parents are not able to provide properly for them would have suffered from the heat and many would have succumbed. As it was, the'ice and milk furnished through the Fund carried them successfully past the hot weather, and gave them a fighting chance for life. The Omaha Bee has for fifty years had the interests of Omaha and her citizens at heart. One example of this is the Milk and Ice Fund. Keep in touch with your city and its doings through the columns of The Bee, where you will find all news handled with a clear sighted, sympathetic understanding. S c 3- i.
