The week ha been a good one for crops.
If only maturity of such crops as are al-
ready made Is co.uildered. Thnt part of
he corn belt-west of the Missouri river
has had all die sunshine and heat any
one could deelro for maturing the corn
crop. It I out of all danger from
frost and In some districts materially
damaged from premature ripening. East
of the river the Very heavy rains of Sep
tember 4 and 5 extended clear across the
Mississippi and Ohio valley and have been
ample lor all purposes, tnougn in. some
districts of Iowa they wern llwufflclent.
Probably In no OUier year ha ch lower
Missouri and the MisslssiDDl and Ohio
valleys enjoyed better crop condition than
nave come to mem since tne aevew Bum
mer drouth was broken the first week In
August. All crop have responded io such
condition ahd while much early corn was
damaged. In July and early potatoee were
nearly a failure, much of thl damage
has been repaired. The same conditions
have Improved pastures, and In the dairy
districts fall forage promises to be excep
tionally abundant The tobacco crop of
the Ohio and Tennessee valley has also
Improved under the condition and will
make a good crop. -

that doubtless more than the average

Western Nebraska and Kansas have been

seeding the winter wheat crop except in
the districts of Nebraska and Kansas

noma' and northern Texas have had plenty
of 'rain for corn ahd minor crops, but
cotton will not make much of a "top"
crop and early fruiting of the cotton plant
ha been greatly damaged by insects as
well a drouth. Drouth conditions In
tbA eastern cotton belt have recently ne-
ceme so severe as to 'damage . corn - and
nenniit croon materially.
Along the Atlantic coast and In- tlie
eastern, states the high temperatures ot
the week have been somewhat unfavorable,
