So far aa the west la concerned, It Is not many years o that the man who qarrled $10,000 or $20,000 ot life Insurance In an old Una company was as one In 10,000.' In recent years life Insurance has come to be regarded so much as an investment that pollclca of $10,0HO and on up to $25,000 are carried by hundreds of men who are not classed aa rich. It Is not out of boundstto say that there Is a steadily Increasing number of men who make Investment in life insurance, and In that alone. The records ot the Insur ance companies and of the probate courts of the land would show that the most sub stantial part of a great many estates, so far as sound and quickly available assets are concerned, has been a life insurance policy, large or small. ' There are, too, more men and women than the great public wots of who are llvlag on paid-up insur ance or annuities bought In . the day of health and prosperity as a sure and certain maintenance and stay for the rainy day or the business reverse. Having great" con fidence in the efficacy of their, own medi cine, . the multitudes of employes of the Insurance companies who can afford It in vest In insurance Just aa they would In gilt-edge real estate. , In the state of Nebraska "there are some thing like two-scora men who carry poli cies in old line companies for $60,000 or more. 'The policy or polioles out In the state calling for the largest amount Is held by E. L. McOllltn of Stratton. It calls for $140,000. Samuel N. VTolbaeh of Grand Island carries a policy for $100,000 and Robert Taylor of the same town Is In sured; for half as much. Andrew J. Dur. land of Norfolk Is paying for $51,000 worth of Insurance, and In Lincoln there are halt a dozen, or more men who carry policies fOr the sums of $60,000 or more. .; Leaders la the List.' . , Taking account of, only those policies which call for, $50,000,- or upward there are over a score' of gentlemen In Omaha, Who can be listed .In that class.'. Two of these, C. N. Diets, the lumber and .coal man, and Edward Rosewater, carry policies for over a quarter, of. a .million," the exact amounts being $300,000 and $276,000, res pectively, . ' Six gentlemen have policies for $100,000 or more, and. among them Is Edward A. Cudahy, whose life is. Insured for. an even $150,000. The othert five are E. E. Bruce, wholesale- drugs,' $112,000; George W. Hoi drege of the B. A M.;. $120,000; Gilbert M. Hitchcock, editor,. r83,000; J. K, Markel, catering to the world at largo, $100,000, and A. C. Smith, wholesale .dry goods, $126,000. In the $75,000 and over class are J.-L. Baker, who devotes, his . energies-tox' tlia banking, lumber and grain business,- and Guy C. Barton of the .street railway; com-. pany. ;Mr. Baker's policies represent .the sum 'of $86,000 and Mr. Barton's an, even v; $76,000. ' " . . .' In Omaha -there are two" ppHbles ' for $70,000, held by Frank Colpetzer.'Tn'eJivm' berman, and Rom Miller, -the man. feeds the multitudes. In the bunch of $60,000 policyholders are G. A. Joslyn and A. B. Jaqulth, the grain man. Other Believers. There are seven believers In life Insurance who pay premiums on policies for $60,000 and more, .They are J. .E. Baum of the Bennett- store; Matthew A. Hali; lawyer; Herman Kountze," real estate and banking; T. B. McPbersoti," banker; ' William A, Paxton, capitalist; John J. Roche,. Gott lieb Store, brewer. The estate of the late Ben B. Wood Included a $50,000 policy. M. Levy of the Nebraska Clothing com pany worries along under a policy repre senting $90,000. Many ot these policies have, of course, been underwritten in more than one com pany. In many cases the amount stated has been growing from year to year, of the policies held by one man dating others by several years. It Is rosy be called a growing Investment, more of it a man gets the more he e If his clrcumstances enable him to the- premlnms. Much ot it. too. Is up Insurance, and much more dlv paying. )tne The rants, meet paid Idend A Remarkable Lite lasaraitee Record. The late Mr. Frank Murphy took an ordinary life policy for $5.0i0 in the Northwestern Mutual of Milwaukee In January, 1891, at the age of 49, with an annual premium of $228.20. Mr. Murphy lived to pay fourteen premiums In full, leaving 'his dividends to buy additions to the policy, and at his death these dlvi denda amounted to the REMARKABLE SUM of $1,715.67, or over 63 per cent of the premiums paid, making the net cost of the $T.,Ono only $1,479.13. Mr. Murphy fell only seven years short or his expectancy of life. I fad he lived out his allotted time his premiums would even then have netted him over 10 per cent on the Investment. The above . Is not . an exceptional case. We have hundreds of Omaha policy holders that can. show better results because they were younger when they Insured. For thirty years the Northwestern has been famous for its dividends to policy holders and has never been equaled by any other company. The conservative managers of this grand Sid company have accomplished wonders for Its policy holders. But to get North western dividends you must carry a North ern policy.
