the estimate: Pay of the navy, $30,000,000;
pay. miscellaneous, 1000,000; contingent,
navy, 865,000; bureau of navigation, $1,779,
750; bureau of ordnance, $5,103,50; bureau of
equipment, $6,724,228; bureau of yards and
docks, $8,764,030; public works, secretary of
the navy (Naval academy), $1,945,000; pub
Ho works, bureau of navigation, $136,900;
public works, bureau of ordnance, $504,050;
pliblic works, bureau of medicine and sur
gery, $273,000; bureau of supplies and ac
counts, $5,883,932; bureau of construction and
repairs, $8,410,024; bureau of steam engi
neering, $4,322,720; Naval academy, $319,675;
marine corps paymaster, $2,593,596; quarter
master, $2,412,298. The , estln tee for the
pay of the navy Is an Increase of $675,095
over the last appropriation. Under public

Following are the total estimates under
the head of "Increase of the navy"; Con
struction and machinery. $30,410,833; armor
end armament, $14,000,000; equipments, $X45.-'
000. These Involve an Increase of $13,428,97$
over the last appropriation.
Along the estimates under yards and
docks are the following for the navy yards
named:
Boston. $418,810; Charleston, 8. C $807,000:
Guantanamo, $276,000; League Island, $397,
600; Mare Island, $280,900: New York, $999,
200; Qlongapo. Philippine islands, $120,000;
Portsmouth, N. If., $T65,900: Puget sound,
$385,500; San Juan. $416,000; Washington,
$328,200. Of the total of these amounts $4.
157,000 Is for new Items. $136,400 being for
Mare Island, $179,600 for Pugoi sound.
Under public works, bureau of surgery,
$300,000 Is estimated for the Naval hos
pital, Norfolk, and $50,000 for the Naval
hospital at Pensanla. Of the estimates

HENRY GAVER PLEADS GUILTY
Man Who Killed James Ralabolt on
Rosebud Is Sentenced for
Manslanghter.
ABERDEEN. S. D., Nov. 19.-(Speclal.)-
Henry Gaver, Indicted for the murder of
William Ralnbolt on the Rosebud reserva
tion in October, who at first pleaded not
guilty to the indictment, this morning ap
peared before the federal court and asked
permission to change his plea from not
guilty to guilty of manslaughter. The plea
was accepted by the court and Judge Car
land sentenced Gavcr to three years In the
penitentiary at Sioux Falls. United Statej
Attorney Elliott stated that in his opin
ion the killing of Ralnbolt was unpremed
itated, and In view of this statement the
light sentence was Imposed.
Other sentences were imposed as follows:
George La Belle, convicted of selling liquor
to Indians, sixty days in the' Roberts
county Jail and a fine of $100 and costs of
prosecution; August Rosenbush, convicted
of the same offense, given the same sen
tence; Edwin J. Emery, destroying fence
enclosing United States property on the
Lower Brule reservation, fine of $10 or
five days In the Brule county Jail; Thomas
and John Sands, stealing horses from Mm,

reservation, one year and six months in the
penitentiary at Sioux Falls. Utile War
rior, larceny of a horse, one year and six

Ben Hungry, selling liquor to Indians, three

The plea of guilty to manslaughter mads
by Gaver will shorten the term of court
considerably, as his trial was expected to
take up several days' time. The calendar
Is cleared, with the exception of few civil
suits, and the court will complete its labors
this week.
DEER HINTING IN BLACK HILLS
Game Said to Be More Pleatlfnl Than
' la Years.
SIOUX FALLS. 8. D.. . Nov. 19.-fSDe-
cial.) Reports from various portions of
the Black Hills are to the effect that the
opening of the deer shooting season on the
15th Inst, found scores of bunting parties
organized and ready for the sport of hunt
ing and shooting these animals. All re
ports agree that deer are more numerous
than for years and rare sport la anticipated
during the open season.
During the closed season there were prac
tically no attempt made to kill the ani
mals and violate the law, and the result
was that on the opening day of the open
season deer, in addition to being unusually
numerous, were also quite tame. One' of
the favorite resorts for deer I what is
known as the Cold Springs region, and it
was to that part of the Black Hills that
many of the hunters proceeded at the open
ing of the season.
The timber in the Black Hills Is more
open than that In the deer hunting sections
of Wisconsin and Minnesota, and there is
little fear of hunters being killed through
being mistaken for deer or by stray bullets,
thus making the hunting of deer much
safer than in the other two state named.

Judge Geddls' court today, Jamea Jones,
aged 28, who attempted to elope with Ella
Gorsuch, pretty 14-year-old country girl,
daughter of well-to-do people of Broadland,
was dismissed from custody. When It be
came known that the couple were desper
ately In love with each other and determ
ined to marry, the father of the girl stated
thai If the pair would wait till the girl
became of age no further objection to the
union would be made. Accordingly, upon
the father's offer to pay costs of the action
the case closed. The girl went home with
her parents and Jones and number of
friends and neighbor accompanied them.
