For the week receipts have been quite lib eral, there being a gain over both last week and the corresponding week ot last year. The table above will show the exact flgurta. Other points have also been well supplied and healdea that packers have boen short on cars In which to move their meat prod ucts. As a result tho tendency of prices has been decidedly downward. Corn-fed steers may be quoted all the way from loicfic lower for th week and some of the common stuff may be even worse than that. Trading has been slow all the week, ' til In fact It has been one of iheardeet :eks that salesmen have experienced In a ...ig time. The best grades of well-nnlshed heavy cattle have sold to the best advan tage, owing to the fact that such kinds have been very scarce and packers have hsrd'.y been able to get enough of them to fill their orders. For that reason the choice grades are not over a dime lower and something strictly prime mlnht bring practically last week's prices. The common kinds of cattle are selling largely from $3 to $3.00, fair to good from $3.75 to $4.16 and good to choice from $4. S to $j. The cow market has followed much the same course as the trade on steers. The choice bunches may not be over lPtfj'lia lower and In extreme cases possibly a little more. Canners, though, have not shown much change. The latter are se.llnr largely from $1.75 to $2.26, fair to good grades from $2.80 to $2.60 and Rood to choice from $2.80 to $3.26, with something strictly choice from $3.40 to 83.85. Bulla are fully a quarter lower for the week and In some cases as much as 35o lower. The bulk of the fair to good grades are selling from $2.60 to $3, with choice from $3 to $3.75. Good veal calves have held about steady, but common kinds are a little lower. There has been a good demand for stock era and feeders all the week, and as a re sult anything at a'.l desirable has held fully steady. Even the common kinds have sold to as good advantage as they did last week. Cattle of gvxxl weight and quality that have not been on corn sell to the best advantage, but still warmel-up cattle of good quality and dehorned sell quite freely. Good to choice grades may bo quoted from $3.75 to $4, with something strictly fancy perhaps a little higher. Fair to goocj cattle sell from $3.25 to $3.60 and common kinds from $3.26 down. cows. The market, though, has been in good shape and prices have been at the top notch of the aeuson. Closing prices are about 6fl0c higher than a week ago. This morning the receipts were again lib eral and aa reports from other markets were unfavorable to ths sailing interests packers were bearish. The market opened about a nickel lower on the best nogs. Buy ers, though, were slow to take hold, and after the first round their bids were 610o lower on the general run of hoars and the lightweights were slow and fully a dime lower, some sales being as much as loo lower than the good time yesterday. Trad ing was very slow and It wss late before anything like a clearanoe waa made. Ught. weights sold largely from $5.20 down, the bulk of the medium to good weight boss from $5.25 to $' 85 snd prime heavies sold from $3.40 to $3. 60. Representative saies; Feb. 1... Feb. 2.... Tne volume of trade was Urge and there was an of the usual week-end features W hMe some liquidation on the part of the profit taking Ions was seen, it was soon snent snd all offerings were eagerly absorbed. Wide advances for a Saturday were estab lished, nervous shorts sending prices up on themselves by their hurried running to cover on extremely bullish weekly sta tistics, while heavy buying by professional and outside longs gave the mnrket a strong undertone. At the opening the tone was firm nnd nrioes showed an advance of 810 points. IJquldntlon shaved the Inltlnl advance soon after the opening and shorts attempted to cover nt the decline. They were disappointed. Prices quickly rose until thev were from 25 to 27 points higher than the' close of yesterrtav In March, May snd July.
