of the possibility or a call on the national
guard of the states nnd territories to aralst
in the national defense In the case of wnr
with Snaln , Adjutant General Corbin of the
army 1 3 compiled i masa of Interesting In
formation In connection with the strength of
the national guard and the quota each state
and territory would be expected to furnUih
under calls for from 60,000 to 200,000 men , ac
cording , first , to the strength of the national
guard , and , second , according to the popula
tion of the different stalls and territories.
These tables are very complete and show-
pi eclacly the number of men each state or
tonltory would bo expected to furnish undr
tlo constitution regardless of the strength of
the national guards' organizations In each
otato or territory. In explanation of the
tables given below , It may be stated that.
while the total strength of the natlotial
fiiianl of No\ York Is 17,700 , In case the na
tional guard of thu countrjca called upon
to supply 50,000 men , XoYork's apportion
ment , according to Its strength , would be
