tions. But my business after leaving
college has boon such that it has boon
necessary for mo each day to deal with
an entirely now sot of fats , and a largo
number of them. Each day's accumula
tion was shoved asidp by the following
day's and thus the mind , or the memory ,
if you please , lost its grip , as it wore.
As this went on for years , my memory
became permanently impaired , and I
have no hope of over recovering it It
is only Important matters that I can
now keep in mind , or else matters ihat
have a special personal interest. For
details I have no capacity of retention
for moro than a few days. And , as I
said , when there Js any special thing
that I must attend to'outside of the
regular course of business I imiko use of
my memorandum-book. "
