The Eleventh Street Gallery, 305 S. 1 1 th St., opened only six months ago but in that time span has housed nine exhibits. The shows have (with one ex ception) displayed the work of Lincoln artists, 34 all told. The shows when listed chronologi cally are a testament to both the gallery's and Lincoln's artistic potentials. They have generally shown a proclivity for the more adventurouscon troversial pursuits of the vis ual arts. Recently, the gallery featured the work of Dear Madame's a feminist discussion group, dealing with the issue of violence against women. The only non-Lincoln show the gal lery has displayed was a pos ter show of political Latin American art, presented by. LASCO, the Latin American Solidarity Committee. The Eleventh Street is clearly aiming to be one of those al ternatives to conventional mar keting strategies, something like an Open Harvest for the eyes. It's idealistic aims in this area is paralleled only by the PRINK FOL'K SIX-fACKS fW SINb VtR565 0Ftme.uxip wiwmmss- Olivetti Portable Electric Typewriter. Used little, just serviced. Antiquarian Bookstore and artists co-operatives in Omaha's Old Market district. It's an op portunity sorely needed by Lin coln, but also one that can only continue through community support. "We need volunteers," says Peter Tooth, one of the gallery's three founders. "Monetary don ations are always nice, but if some people, especially stu dents, would give up a bit of their spare time, we could keep the bloody place open more hours." Tooth is from Britain. The other founders are Lincolnites Sharon Lewandowsky and Ed Rumbaugh. Recently, Albbusuer que native Elane Perea has contributed emotional and financial support. The Eleventh Street is a community-access gallery and operates a slide file and artist reference area artists. Like everything else at the gallery, it's free and available. mm wmeeuHiNO. SFrriNO.
