Tryouts for the University The
atre and Experimental Theatre
productions will take place si
multaneously this week. The
highly successful Broadway com
edy, "Dream Girl," by Elmer Rice
is the selection of the University
Theatre while Clifford Odets'
"Waiting for Lefty" is the Experi
mental Theatre's choice.
Tryouts are scheduled for 2
p. m. to 5 p. m. end 7 p. m, to 9
p. m., Wednesday, Sept. 15; 7
p. m. to 9 p. m., Thursday, Sept.
16, and 2 p. m. to 5 p. m., Friday,
Sept. 17.
Any student enrolled in the uni
versity, including graduate and
transfer students, are eligible for
the tryouts. Freshmen, however,
will be cast only in Experimental
Theatre productions all year.
"Dream Girl," directed by Dal
las Williams, is mainly a group of
dream sequences revolving around
the leading character, Georgina,
who is in every scene in the play.
The play is a University The
atre milestones. Through its in
tricate staging techniques it is the
most difficult play ever to be pre
sented on the Temple stage, ac
cording to Williams. There are
26 scenes requiring 18 different
stage settings. Because of these
many settings and the diversified
sound effects the play will need a
tremendously large production
staff.
Ten women are needed for the
production, six with on-stage
speaking parts and four extras.
There are 13 male roles with nine
on-stage and four as extras.

Frosh Wage Fierce Battle
During Coliseum Campaign
By Fritz Simpson.
Buck up, frosh! The fight is al
most over.
Approximately 2,200 eager
freshmen armed themselves with
pencils last Thursday and pre
pared to go into battle.
A well trained staff of medi
cal experts was on hand to make
sure that every frosh was physic
ally ready to meet the enemy.
With no 4-Fs in their ranks the
green troops advanced upon the
Coliseum into battle.
English, math, science and
others proved to be worthy foes.
For some, the fight was short. For
others, it was strictly an uphill
campaign. However, with few cas
ualties, the freshmen retreated to
prepare for Friday's encounter.
The same enemies were vaiting
to meet the frosh Friday, and a
terrific struggle again took place
in the already battle scarred Col
iseum. With the approach of eve
ning, activities subsided and the
troops moved back into their rest
camps. The Coliseum campaign
was over.
A new enemy appeared on the
battlefield Monday when registra
tion was thrown into the fray.
The frosh also were ambushed
from time to time by small bands
of red and white uniformed
troops, Corn Cobs and Tassels by
name, who specialized in riddling
Freshmen pocketbooks.
But the fight is almost over,
freshmen. Don't give up now.
Only one light skirmish remains
